The season shifted to May as of last Thursday, which means more than a month of the season is already done, and the New York Mets have many players who are performing well to the point where they could have a chance to head to the All-Star Game. Lots of batting averages and pitching performances have been stellar, to say the least. However, certain players have never been in this particular situation before, and so far, their statistics and performances prove that they deserve a shot at playing in the mid-summer classic for the first time.<\/p>\n
Although he’s had a rough go of it at times throughout his big league career, Tylor Megill has pitched phenomenally for the Mets this season. As much as he struggled a lot to go deep in games, it’s been a bit of a different story in 2025. He began his 2025 success in March by becoming the No. 2 starting pitcher in the rotation behind Clay Holmes.<\/p>\n
Megill has started seven games so far this season. The only start where he went less than five innings was on April 9 against the Miami Marlins, in which the Mets got shutout 5-0. He went four innings, yet he struck out seven batters and didn\u2019t allow an earned run. In his other starts, he pitched at least five innings, including a start when he went six and a third innings against the Washington Nationals on April 27, which is his longest outing so far this year.<\/p>\n
Megill\u2019s strikeout numbers have increased compared to recent years. He already has 45 total strikeouts, which is close to his 2022 strikeout total of 51. Plus, at the moment, he has a 2.50 ERA, which puts him tied-14th in that category.<\/p>\n
Because Megill has been giving the Mets consistent length and reliability in their rotation, it\u2019s clear that Megill has made some improvements and adjustments to step up his game and earn his way toward a spot on the All-Star roster. He has never made an appearance in the All-Star Game in his five-year big league career with the Mets.
