Taylor Swift\u00a0and\u00a0Travis Kelce\u00a0did not attend the Met Gala this year for a very simple reason.<\/p>\n

The Met Gala vet, 35, and her NFL star beau, also 35, did receive an invitation to fashion\u2019s biggest night this year, but they had to decline due to their respective schedules, sources told\u00a0TMZ.<\/p>\n

Swift and Kelce, who\u00a0began dating in 2023, have both\u00a0been enjoying some downtime\u00a0following the end of the NFL season and the singer\u2019s Eras Tour.<\/p>\n

“They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it,” a source told PEOPLE in April. “They are making the most of their time off together. They are hanging out with friends, too. It’s a special time for them.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The insider also said that the stars are “very serious and in sync,” adding: “They value the same things. Right now, the focus is very much on private time out of the spotlight.”<\/p>\n

Had Kelce attended the May 5 event \u2014 and taken\u00a0his signature style from the locker room to the iconic steps of the Met \u2014 it would have been his first-ever appearance at the prestigious New York City event.<\/p>\n

Swift, meanwhile, has attended the Met Gala several times, but the last was over a decade ago, when she was a co-chair at the \u201cManus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology\u201d-themed 2016 gala.<\/p>\n

The \u201cKarma\u201d singer \u2014 who\u00a0also skipped last year\u2019s gala due to her busy schedule\u00a0\u2014 made her Met Gala debut in 2008. She has since attended the star-studded event five more times,\u00a0becoming a mainstay (and must-see!) at the gala\u00a0until her last appearance in 2016.<\/p>\n

In 2008 and 2010, the Grammy winner made the very visible jump from\u00a0her\u00a0Fearless\u00a0era\u00a0to her\u00a0Speak Now\u00a0era, rocking a shimmering gold Badgley Mischka gown for her debut, and a white Ralph Lauren Collection gown with a bright red lip for her second appearance two years later.<\/p>\n

She went on to rock several more memorable looks, from her J. Mendel gown and sultry glam at 2011\u2019s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty\u201d-themed gala, to her silky, pink Oscar de la Renta gown in 2014.<\/p>\n

The star\u2019s most recent \u2014 and most polarizing \u2014 look came at the 2016 gala, when she debuted her lightest hair to date in a metallic Louis Vuitton mini dress and ultra-dark lip, setting the tone for her\u00a0Reputation\u00a0<\/em>era to come.<\/p>\n

Co-chaired by\u00a0Colman Domingo,\u00a0Lewis Hamilton,\u00a0A$AP Rocky,\u00a0Pharrell Williams\u00a0and Anna Wintour, plus\u00a0LeBron James\u00a0as honorary chair, this year\u2019s Met Gala spotlights the Met’s spring 2025 exhibition, \u201cSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which doubles as the theme.<\/p>\n

The dress code was \u201cTailored for You,\u201d a nod to the exhibition\u2019s focus on menswear and suiting.<\/p>\n

Curator in Charge\u00a0Andrew Bolton\u00a0said that the exhibition \u2014 which is\u00a0inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller\u2019s 2009 book\u00a0Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity\u00a0\u2014 explores \u201cthe Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.\u201d<\/p>\n

It \u201cpresents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,\u201d per the museum\u2019s\u00a0Instagram.<\/p>\n
