Team submitting them today.<\/p>\n<p>Two team pillars now in the fold for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) April 29, 2025<\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"scroll-mt-24 my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">Chiefs Exercise Fifth-Year Options on Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis<\/h2>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Chiefs are submitting requests on Tuesday to exercise the fifth-year options for both McDuffie and Karlaftis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">This&#8217;ll keep each player on the team through 2026, and it&#8217;s likely that extension talks will begin now.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" data-uw-rm-sr=\"\">McDuffie figures to become perhaps the league&#8217;s top-paid cornerback once he gets his extension, and the Houston Texans&#8217; deal with Derek Stingley Jr. at three years, $90 million, represents a good starting point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" data-uw-rm-sr=\"\">Karlaftis is a bit less clear-cut, as he could command north of $100 million given his position,\u00a0causing some trade speculation to swirl.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">This defense is significantly better when these two players are on the field.<\/p>\n<p class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">McDuffie is a two-time All-Pro in three seasons, while Karlaftis is already second all-time in sacks in Chiefs playoff history with eight. Frank Clark has the lead with 10.5, so Karlaftis, who got four in last year&#8217;s postseason, could theoretically take over the organization&#8217;s record as soon as this year.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\">That&#8217;s not the kind of guy you let walk.
