The New York Mets entered Sunday’s game at Nationals Park starting off on a dominant foot, scoring five runs in the first inning and an additional run in the second. The game felt like a win that the New York Mets could easily walk away with – that is, until Mets defensive blemishes later turned into self-inflicted wounds.<\/p>\n
The Mets’ luck started to turn sour in the bottom of the second inning when RHP Tylor Megill gave up a home run to Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews after having a great start, featuring nine strikeouts over 6.1 innings pitched.<\/p>\n
This home run would serve as foreshadowing for the rest of the afternoon, as Jos\u00e9 Butto showed his difficulty with pitch location and command, giving up a single and a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, which would later drive in runs for Washington, giving them the momentum to mount a comeback.<\/p>\n
New York Mets pitchers Huascar Brazoban and Ryne Stanek were no match for the scoring surge that the Nationals had created to seal the game and get the win over the New York Mets. During his postgame interview with the media, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza, who looked visibly displeased, had this to say about the Mets’ collapse:<\/p>\n
