The New York Mets are now tied for MLB’s best record after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Monday, and star shortstop Francisco Lindor is a big reason why. The 31-year-old is slashing .284\/.340\/.500 after his two-homer, four-RBI night against the Phillies.<\/p>\n
Lindor hit a solo shot to right in the first inning before a three-run homer to center in the seventh, scoring Luisangel Acu\u00f1a and Tyrone Taylor. New York’s only other run was a Jesse Winker solo home run in the second.<\/p>\n
Lindor now has five longballs this season, second on the Mets (16-7) only to Pete Alonso. New York manager Carlos Mendoza sounded off about the former’s effectiveness after the game on Monday, via SNY.<\/p>\n
“[He’s] not missing pitches. Laying off some tough ones,” he explained. “The at-bat before, he walked, laying off a 3-1 changeup. Usually, when he’s in trouble, he’s swinging at those pitches below the strike zone. Right now, he’s taking those, and when he’s getting his pitches in the strike zone, he’s not missing them and hitting them with authority.”<\/p>\n
“Lindor doesn’t get to that at-bat if Tyrone Taylor doesn’t bust down the line and beat the double play,” he continued. “It’s a team effort, but again, Lindor [is] locked in right now.”<\/p>\n
