There\u2019s been no secret that the Boston Red Sox are off to a sluggish start at the plate. While it’s still early in the season with over 150 games remaining, the struggles have been highlighted by their superstar, Rafael Devers.<\/p>\n

Devers has had an eventful offseason, which seems to have contributed to his historically bad start to the year. On Jan. 11, 2023, he signed a massive 10-year, $313 million extension. However, after the signing of Alex Bregman, Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced that Devers would be moving from third base to designated hitter. The position change didn\u2019t sit well with the 28-year-old star.<\/p>\n

Now, having accepted the change, Devers is off to one of the worst starts in MLB history. After striking out 10 times in the Red Sox’s first three games, marking the most in the sport\u2019s history, he has struck out 12 times in just 16 at-bats through four games and is still without a hit.<\/p>\n

Following the Red Sox\u2019s third consecutive loss on Sunday, Devers was visibly distraught in the dugout. While sitting alone on the bench, Red Sox game-planning coordinator and legendary former catcher Jason Varitek was seen consoling him.<\/p>\n

“Cry more. Getting paid millions to be the DH. So sad,” A\u00a0fan said.<\/p>\n

“When you look up the word captain or leader Jason Varitek picture appears,” Someone\u00a0else added.<\/p>\n

“I know the Solution.. Play him at 3B! He’s NOT a DH… if he keeps slumping you’ll know why.. his heart isn’t in it! Because he’s not a DH,” Another\u00a0fan suggested.<\/p>\n

One more\u00a0fan commented, “we\u2019re all overreacting but this seems like well, an overreaction\u2026it\u2019s been 4 games man why we acting like we lost game 7 he\u2019ll sit tomorrow with Tuesday off & smack XBHs on Wednesday”<\/p>\n
