When running back Elijah Mitchell is on the field, he is an exciting playmaker.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what the Kansas City Chiefs had in mind when they signed him to a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million \u2014 and the 26-year-old running back says he\u2019s ready to start proving the team made the right move.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m back at 100%,\u201d he told reporters in a Zoom call last week, referring to a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the 2024 season. \u201cI\u2019ll be ready to go when we start back up in May \u2014 definitely.\u201d<\/p>\n

After his season off, Mitchell is motivated to get back to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very challenging,\u201d he recalled. \u201cJust having the love for football and not being able to step on the field and compete against the best, it really weighed on me a lot. I\u2019m hungrier than ever \u2014 and I\u2019m ready to roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Mitchell will be among the team\u2019s newcomers when practices begin, he feels he\u2019ll fit in with his new team after four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe things they do on offense [are like] everything I did in San Francisco,\u201d he noted, \u201cso I\u2019m excited for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the 49ers, Mitchell was primarily used in the running game. But he believes he can bring more to the Chiefs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was at San Francisco, I did all of the passing game stuff in practice,\u201d he explained. \u201cNow just being able to actually do it with Kansas City, it\u2019s going to open up a lot of things \u2014 not just for me, [but] for the team. It\u2019s going to be incredible \u2014 and I\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will be at least one familiar face on the practice field. Kansas City\u2019s new left tackle Jaylon Moore was among Mitchell\u2019s teammates during all four of his seasons with the 49ers \u2014 and the running back is as confident in Moore\u2019s fit with the Chiefs as he is with his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my boy,\u201d Mitchell said of Moore. \u201cWe came in together \u2014 [and] since Day 1, we clicked. Jaylon brings a lot \u2014 even though he was behind one of the best tackles in the league. Jaylon is definitely a sleeper \u2014 and Patrick Mahomes is going to love [what] Jaylon brings to it. He can protect, he\u2019s a good guy \u2014 and [he\u2019s] an awesome football player.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mitchell understands that with the Chiefs \u2014 where he\u2019ll compete against Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt \u2014 there will be a high bar to clear. But that\u2019s just what the fifth-year running back wants.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen things get tough \u2014 and you get to the point where your head coach wants to just run the ball \u2014 that gets me fired up,\u201d he said. \u201cYou put everything on your back and just be a playmaker. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kansas City will need a more explosive offense in 2025. Mitchell has already flashed as a playmaker during his NFL career \u2014 and he is looking forward to an opportunity to prove he can help the Chiefs reach their goal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
