Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James made a stunning admission about his relationship with Michael Jordan, the NBA legend whom he grew up idolizing and now he\u2019s fiercest competitor in the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) conversation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t talk,\u201d James said on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d on Wednesday, March 26. \u201cBecause I\u2019m still playing. I\u2019m still focused on my craft right now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n James expects that to stay the same as long as he\u2019s still actively playing and stacking his resume to compete against him.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s because I\u2019m still playing,\u201d James continued. \u201cAnd MJ, we all know MJ. Even if you don\u2019t know him personally, he is one of the most ruthless competitors there is and until I\u2019m done and he doesn\u2019t have to look at me running up and down wearing the No. 23 and every time my name is mentioned, it\u2019s mentioned with his, [a relationship will have to wait].\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n But James hopes that when he retires, he\u2019ll be able to form a relationship with Jordan the same way the late Kobe Bryant did when he retired.<\/p>\n Then it grew deeper when he joined the Lakers.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s when our relationship became really, really good,\u201d James said of Bryant. \u201cHe welcomed me. He called me, like, \u2018Bro, anything you need in L.A., I got you. You\u2019re a Laker now. You\u2019re family.\u2019 And we would have multiple conversations. Obviously, you guys saw him coming to a lot of games\u2026 And when I passed him for the scoring record in Philly, he had a tweet out there like, \u2018Keep on going.\u2019 Like, \u2018Keep transcending the game. Keep going.\u2019 And that s\u2014 meant so much to me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n James admitted that he wore No. 23 because of Jordan and recalled the memorable embrace he shared with him during the unveiling of the NBA\u2019s 75th Anniversary Team during the All-Star Game in 2022 in Cleveland.<\/p>\n \u201cThat was dope,\u201d James said. \u201cThat\u2019s straight respect, admiration and me, for sure, I wear 23 because of MJ. And the inspiration that he gave me as a kid in Akron, Ohio, who don\u2019t have much inspiration in your hometown.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n James also addressed in a wide-ranging interview with McAfee about his confrontation with ESPN\u2019s \u201cFirst Take\u201d host Stephen A. Smith.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s like, on a Taylor Swift tour run right now,\u201d\u00a0James sarcastically said on \u201cThe Pat McAfee Show\u201d on Wednesday, March 26. \u201cHe literally started off with, \u2018I didn\u2019t want to address it. I wasn\u2019t going to address it. But since the video came out, I feel the need to address it.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cAre you kidding me? If there\u2019s one person that couldn\u2019t wait for the video to drop so you can address it, it\u2019s your ass. Like, seriously.<\/p>\n He completely missed the whole point. Never would I ever not allow people to talk about the sport, criticize players about what they do on the court. That is your job to criticize or to be in a position where, okay, if a guy\u2019s not performing, that is all part of the game.<\/p>\n \u201cBut when you take it and you get personal with it, it\u2019s my job to not only protect my damn household but protect the players from a lot of the media, including him, and I know he\u2019s gonna be happy as hell.<\/p>\n He\u2019s gonna be smiling from ear to ear when he hears me talking about him. Oh my God! He\u2019s gonna get home and grab some ice cream and sit with his tiny whities on the couch.<\/p>\n \u201cRelax, bro, like, relax.
