For a player who\u2019s been in the league since just 2019, quarterback Gardner Minshew has bounced around a bit.<\/p>\n
After two seasons in Jacksonville, he was traded to Philadelphia. Then he signed with the Colts in 2023, moved on to the Raiders in 2024, and after being released signed with the Chiefs for 2025.<\/p>\n
Minshew wasn\u2019t on the open market for long, which was largely because he knew where he wanted to be.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the end of our season \u2014 when it seemed like I was going to get cut \u2014 I knew in my head that this is where I wanted to be,\u201d Minshew said in his news conference late last week, via Jared Sapp of ArrowheadPride.com. \u201cI took a pre-draft visit with the Chiefs back in the day [before] coming into the league. I feel like everything went really well \u2014 just talking to coach [Andy] Reid and understanding what they\u2019re all about. I always knew that [Kansas City would] be a really good fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
Minshew noted he\u2019s long been a fan of Reid\u2019s offenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always felt that was something that I could do well in,\u201d Minshew said. \u201cI feel like Pat came up playing in the \u2018Air Raid.\u2019 It was something I did in college as well. I feel like that kind of play style \u2014 of just understanding and feeling space and understanding leverage in numbers \u2014 really serves you well in the system.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now that he\u2019s officially with the club, Minshew said he\u2019s looking forward to being a support system for two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m super fired up to be part of just a winning organization [and] winning culture,\u201d Minshew said. \u201cI feel like I have so much to learn from how Coach Reid and everybody operates \u2014 [and] how Pat operates \u2014 and I\u2019m just looking forward to helping in any way I can. If there\u2019s any way I can help this team \u2014 whether it\u2019s on the scout team, whether it\u2019s helping Pat in meetings, whether it\u2019s just bringing good energy to practice \u2014 I look forward to just doing whatever I can to contribute and help this team win.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
