All the trophies, rings, and awards suddenly meant nothing when first baseman Freddie Freeman\u2019s three-year-old son was hospitalized with a rare neurological condition.<\/p>\n

Freeman\u2019s son, Max, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barr\u00e9 syndrome in July. The condition was causing Max\u2019s immune system to attack his nerves, which quickly led to full-body paralysis.<\/p>\n

During this time, Freeman set down his bat and glove to be by his family\u2019s side throughout Max\u2019s hospital stay. Fortunately, after eight days in the pediatric ICU, Max was\u00a0released from the hospital.<\/p>\n

Freeman returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers\u2019 lineup soon after for a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium. However, there was a possibility that Freeman would hang up his cleats for good during the hardest times with their season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a point, like, if Max didn’t get better, I don’t know if Freddie would have gone back to playing,\u201d Freeman’s wife, Chelsea, said to USA Today. \u201cSo Max getting better in itself is a miracle and then for Freddie to be able to finish the way that he did \u2026 I feel like we needed that.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
