Just hours after the latest episode of the New Heights podcast was released Wednesday, news came of the\u00a0Chiefs\u2019 deal to send guard Joe Thuney to the Bears.<\/p>\n
That came just after tight end Travis Kelce had warned in his New Heights podcast that the Chiefs faced some hard decisions as they prepared for the 2025 season.<\/p>\n
Kelce acknowledged the Chiefs need to upgrade their roster if they want to make another Super Bowl run.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean\u00a0we gotta get some pieces,\u201d Kelce said. \u201cI think 100% this offseason, we\u2019re stuck kind of trying to juggle some contract negotiations and losing some key pieces. And I mean, that hurts. You know, we got a lot of guys that we rely on big time, we\u2019ve relied on big time in the past that have helped us win Super Bowls that are in contract negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelce\u2019s brother and podcast co-host, Jason Kelce, mentioned the Chiefs have put the franchise tag on guard Trey Smith.<\/p>\n
Travis Kelce is excited to have Smith back and hopes the guard\u2019s future contract will allow the Chiefs to make roster upgrades.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know they\u2019re working on a long term deal to try and keep Trey because he\u2019s unbelievable,\u201d Travis Kelce said. \u201cI\u2019m hoping that they can sign something that Trey appreciates, and that the Chiefs can still go out and get other pieces, knowing that we need more guys like Trey Smith. Guys that are dedicated to their craft. He\u2019s one of my favorite guys to play with.\u201d<\/p>\n
Smith is one of\u00a0seven notable free agents\u00a0for the Chiefs. General manager Brett Veach won\u2019t be able to keep all of them while also finding upgrades, especially at left tackle.<\/p>\n
But Kelce noted that his faith in the Chiefs\u2019 brass has never wavered. Kelce added that the team chemistry is a part of the equation when the Chiefs decide who to sign.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always trusted Brett Veach and the front office and the coaches to bring in the right guys, and not only just the guys that have the skill-set and the athleticism and the competitive edge, but do it in a fun way like we\u2019ve brought in guys before,\u201d Kelce said. \u201cThat can add to the chemistry of how the weeks go, the routines go, and try not to make it like we\u2019re coming into work. We\u2019re excited about what we\u2019re doing and we\u2019re excited about the challenges ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelce spoke at length on the podcast about\u00a0his decision to return to the Chiefs\u00a0for the 2025 season rather than retire to focus on his acting career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
