John Mayer is\u00a0a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll singer\u00a0most known for his hits \u201cYour Body Is a Wonderland,\u201d \u201cDaughters,\u201d \u201cSay,\u201d and \u201cWaiting on the World to Change,\u201d\u00a0and his\u00a0cover of Michael Jackson\u2019s \u201cBeat It.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n According to\u00a0The Independent, Swift dated Mayer from December 2009 to February 2010, when she was 19 and he was 31. Afterward, Swift released a track called \u201cDear John.\u201d<\/p>\n In the track, Swift decries a man for cheating and romancing her when she was too young. Fans tend to think that \u201cDear John\u201d is an attack on Mayer.<\/p>\n During a 2012 interview with\u00a0Rolling Stone, Mayer seemed to confirm that \u201cDear John\u201d is about him while dismissing it on an artistic level. \u201cI will say as a songwriter that I think it\u2019s kind of cheap songwriting,\u201d he said. \u201cI know she\u2019s the biggest thing in the world, and I\u2019m not trying to sink anybody\u2019s ship, but I think it\u2019s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, \u2018Wait till he gets a load of this!\u2019 That\u2019s bullsh**.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Mayer\u2019s comments are bizarre. So many great songwriters have done great work because they wanted to channel their feelings about their exes into a song. Maybe the is more interested in writing about \u201cbubblegum tongues,\u201d but Swift\u2019s breakup tunes follow a classic songwriting pattern.<\/p>\n
