Taylor Swift was reportedly a major inspiration on the set of It Ends With Us.<\/p>\n

Justin Baldoni<\/strong> directed the 2024 adaptation of Colleen Hoover<\/strong>\u2019s bestselling novel, starring Blake Lively<\/strong> as protagonist Lily Bloom opposite himself as Ryle Kincaid. The film chronicled the characters\u2019 abusive relationship.<\/p>\n

Months after the movie came out in August 2024, Lively sued Baldoni for sexual harassment and trying to destroy her reputation. He denied the claims before filing a defamation lawsuit against the actress, name-dropping Swift. In his court petition obtained by Us Weekly, <\/i>Baldoni included a text message screenshot where a Sony executive allegedly revealed that Lively personally called Swift to \u201capprove\u201d the use of her song \u201cMy Tears Ricochet\u201d in the trailer. (The two women have been friends since 2015 and the pop star is also godmother to Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds<\/strong>\u2019 children.)<\/p>\n

Insiders, however, say that Swift had no \u201ccreative involvement\u201d in the film\u2019s production.<\/p>\n

\u201cTaylor has always been Blake\u2019s friend, but Taylor doesn\u2019t have any involvement in the case. She wasn\u2019t part of the movie,\u201d a source exclusively told Us Weekly <\/i>in February 2025. \u201cTaylor was not a producer on the film and had no creative involvement.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second insider, meanwhile, told Us <\/i>that Swift never saw the film \u2014 or \u201ca single scene\u201d \u2014 until the movie hit theaters.<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s 2020 song \u201cMy Tears Ricochet\u201d is prominently featured in the trailer for It Ends With Us.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s all Blake,\u201d Baldoni told Entertainment Tonight in May 2024. \u201cI have no idea [how she did it] but Blake knows everybody. Her and Taylor are very good friends. I\u2019m so happy that they agreed to have a song in the trailer, it\u2019s so perfect for the movie.<\/p>\n

In June 2024, Lively revealed how she selected the Folklore <\/i>song in the trailer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThem together made a lot of sense,\u201d she said at Hoover\u2019s Book Bonanza festival. \u201cColleen is able to tell something that\u2019s deeply personal and intimate but is able to resonate with so many people. And Taylor, she\u2019s such an incredible writer. She writes from such personal experiences and vulnerability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lively later told CBS Mornings that she \u201cwent back and forth\u201d with Sony to add the 2020 song in the trailer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big, beautiful summer movie, but it\u2019s actually a pretty intimate movie,\u201d Lively said, claiming it was a small-budget project. \u201cWe never thought, like, our eyeballs were not that big to think that we could put one of her songs in the movie. It had to be and there was a moment in the movie that was missing this emotional gravitas and, as soon as we put the song in, I was like, \u2018That\u2019s the spot\u2019 because it\u2019s the moment in [Lily\u2019s] life where something happens and \u2026 that changes the course of her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Lively \u201cnothing would have\u201d punctuated the moment better than \u201cMy Tears Ricochet.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an August 2024 panel for the film, Lively said \u201cthere were a lot of favors and begging\u201d for song usage since there wasn\u2019t a large budget to work with in the first place. The moderator then specifically asked whether Lively persuaded Swift to agree to license the song for the trailer.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, she was with me on this experience the whole time,\u201d Lively said, per social media footage. \u201cShe really lived this with me, so she\u2019s a person who shows up for you. I\u2019m so grateful to have that love and that support.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lively, who made her directorial debut on Swift\u2019s \u201cI Bet You Think About Me\u201d music video off 2021\u2019s Red (Taylor\u2019s Version)<\/i>, worked with some of the same crew on It Ends With Us.<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had an incredible music supervisor, Season Kent, and one of our editors Shane Reid who, fun fact, was my editor on Taylor\u2019s music video I directed,\u201d Lively told the UK\u2019s CapitalFM in August 2024. \u201cAnd I was obsessed with him, I was like, \u2018This guy is amazing!\u2019 He\u2019d never edited a movie before, he\u2019d just finished Deadpool and Wolverine<\/i> [with my husband] and he came on and helped us with this one. He has incredible taste in music \u2014 and we share the same composer from Deadpool and Wolverine<\/i>. There\u2019s a lot of sharing happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ferrer plays the younger version of Lively\u2019s Lily in It Ends With Us<\/i>, later telling Extra at the August 2024 premiere that Swift helped her land the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a helpful part of the audition, which I found out later when I got it,\u201d Ferrer said. \u201cAnd that rocked my world.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his own interview with Extra <\/i>that month, <\/i>Baldoni revealed that he \u201cshowed [Isabela\u2019s] casting tape\u201d to Lively and Swift.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was casting and I had actually brought in and showed her casting tape to Blake and Taylor and they were both like, \u2018Yes, her!\u2019\u201d Baldoni recalled to Extra<\/i>. \u201cAnd that\u2019s a true story, but she just blew me away.\u201d<\/p>\n
