Before embarking on her arena tour in support of Short n\u2019 Sweet<\/em>, Sabrina Carpenter got to learn firsthand from the mastermind herself: Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n

And in a new Vogue cover story published Tuesday (Feb. 11), the \u201cEspresso\u201d singer revealed exactly how the 14-time Grammy winner\u2019s billion-dollar Eras Tour \u2014 on which Carpenter served as opener for 25 shows \u2014 inspired her own trek. \u201cHer stadiums make my shows look like clubs,\u201d the Girl Meets World <\/em>alum added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWatching her keep their attention as if she\u2019s playing in their living room, it was like \u2014 and I told her this \u2014 \u2018Your tour enabled me to do mine,\u2019\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Carpenter\u2019s Short n\u2019 Sweet Tour kicked off in September, with its North American leg ending in November. The vocalist will resume the trek in March with a monthlong run of European dates.<\/p>\n

Her stint on the global Eras trek came to an end just about a month before she released breakout single \u201cEspresso\u201d ahead of Coachella 2024. The track would propel her into superstar status and lay the groundwork for August\u2019s Short n\u2019 Sweet <\/em>to become her first ever Billboard 200-topping album \u2014 but according to Carpenter, she originally wasn\u2019t supposed to release the tune when she did.<\/p>\n

In fact, she says her label, Island Records, had wanted future Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 \u201cPlease Please Please\u201d to be the first song she dropped from Short n\u2019 Sweet<\/em> \u2014 but Carpenter felt strongly that \u201cEspresso\u201d should go first, and that she should debut it live during her now viral Coachella set. \u201cThere\u2019s something about this song that, if I\u2019d never heard it before, and I heard it live for the first time, I would understand it,\u201d she told Vogue<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was definitely being swayed in another direction, but I knew deep down that it was this song,\u201d she added. \u201cI was afraid of disappointing people for, like, five minutes. And then I was like: \u2018No.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Things eventually came full circle in October, when Carpenter returned to the Eras Tour for a surprise performance of \u201cEspresso\u201d alongside Swift. About three months later, the track won the singer-actress her first Grammy, taking home best pop solo performance moments before Carpenter won best pop vocal album for Short n\u2019 Sweet<\/em>.<\/p>\n
