Jayson Tatum put on a show at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night, leading the Celtics to a blowout win over the Knicks. He also made a bit of a franchise history in process of scoring a game-high 40 points, the second time he\u2019s scored 35-plus points in a game against the Knicks this year.<\/p>\n

The hot shooting night propelled the Celtics All-Star into ninth place overall for the most points in Celtics history. He finished the night with 13,193 points overall, passed Dave Cowens (13,192) and Jo Jo White (13,188) to move into the top-10.<\/p>\n

Joe Mazzulla reflected on the milestone for the 26-year-old after the win.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy for him,\u201d Mazzulla said. \u201cI feel one grateful and I joked with both of (Tatum and Jaylen Brown) that I didn\u2019t have that on my bucket list to coach those two guys and so it just kind of happened and I\u2019m really grateful that I get to coach them and so I don\u2019t take that for granted, but it\u2019s big time for him. He does it the right way and so for him to be able to accomplish that while focused on winning and being a great teammate is really important and I think he\u2019s still underrated, he\u2019s one of the best players out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tatum acknowledged after the win that the atmosphere in Madison Square Garden helped him and the team get up for the impressive victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cBesides Boston, it\u2019s probably the best place to play,\u201d Tatum said. \u201cThey\u2019ve got all the celebrities but they also have an edge about them. They know basketball, they\u2019re passionate, they\u2019re chanting, they\u2019re cheering the whole time. So it is a special place to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tatum and the Celtics improved to 2-0 on the season against the Knicks with the win. The Celtics top scorer will look to chase down Bill Russell next on the franchise points list, who sits at eighth with 14,522 career points.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
