More than 14 years after The Decision, which left Knicks fans disappointed, there\u2019s chatter about Lakers forward LeBron James possibly coming to New York.<\/p>\n

According to ESPN\u2019s Stephen A. Smith, the impetus for this is Los Angeles acquiring Luka Don\u010di\u0107 with Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from the Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what Smith said on ESPN\u2019s \u201cGet Up\u201d on Monday:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI go to Rich Paul and tell him I will waive my no-trade clause for one of two teams,\u201d Smith said, via Awful Announcing. \u201cIt will either be to join Steph Curry in Golden State or go to New York with the Knicks.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNow, the Knicks would be more difficult because they traded away five first-round picks to get Mikal Bridges. I love Bridges, but damn, five first-round picks.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019m not going to belabor that, they did what they did. Obviously, they have a bunch of assets and clearly, the Lakers are in need of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aside from the first-rounder they received from the Mavericks in the trade, the Lakers have one first-round pick left in 2031, according to Smith.<\/p>\n

This makes the Knicks an attractive trading partner should the Lakers really consider moving James.<\/p>\n

The Don\u010di\u0107 caught the sports world by surprise late Saturday night. Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said he \u201cfeels bad for Luka\u201d and added that he\u2019s \u201cscared\u201d for his own future.<\/p>\n

Edwards is not alone in his feelings.<\/p>\n

Luka Doncic\u2019s father, Sa\u0161a Don\u010di\u0107, a former professional player and head coach in Slovenia, called out the Mavericks\u2019 \u201chypocrisy\u201d in the trade, adding Luka \u201cabsolutely doesn\u2019t deserve this.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
