Serena Williams<\/strong>\u00a0says her 7-year-old daughter, Olympia, fangirls over\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/strong>\u00a0rather than Disney princesses.<\/p>\n

While interviewing Williams, 42, at the INBOUND conference on Thursday, September 19, journalist\u00a0Kara Swisher<\/strong>\u00a0asked the retired tennis great if Olympia was interested in\u00a0Frozen<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s not into princesses, she\u2019s into Taylor Swift,\u201d Williams said, adding, \u201cI am, too.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Williams shares Olympia and daughter Adira River, 1, with husband\u00a0Alexis Ohanian<\/strong>, a tech entrepreneur and founder of the online forum Reddit.<\/p>\n

Williams told Swisher, 61, that she is wary about her daughters growing up in a \u201cscary world. It\u2019s a digital world for kids right now. I\u2019m always on with my daughter, but we don\u2019t allow her on certain platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cIt\u2019s so interesting that with everything available online and the access that kids have \u2014 in a second, you never know what can come to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

But, she added, \u201cI\u2019m trying to think positively. I feel like we might try to take it slow with her and go a little bit slower with electronics, and just let her be a kid for as long as you can.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Swisher solicited parenting advice from her, Williams joked, \u201cParenting advice? Please give it to me, thank you very much.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then offered her tips: \u201cJust show up. Wake up. That\u2019s all I do. And I could barely wake up today!\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams explained that parents don\u2019t \u201chave to be winning Wimbledon or winning a gold medal to be a champion.\u201d As she put it, \u201ca champion really is just being there for your kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

She recalled returning home after her flight was delayed and making lunch for her kids. \u201cI knew that I wouldn\u2019t be there to see them eat it, but I knew I made it, and that made me feel good. And I tell you, that made me feel like a champion mom.\u201d<\/p>\n

In July, Williams and Ohanian, 41, took Olympia to the Paris Olympics, where Williams was one of the final torchbearers, arriving at the Olympic cauldron alongside\u00a0Rafael Nadal<\/strong>,\u00a0Carl Lewis<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Nadia Com\u0103neci<\/strong>. At the time, Olympia informed a reporter that she was looking forward to \u201cevery one of\u201d the athletic events.<\/p>\n

Weeks earlier, Williams had poked fun at\u00a0Travis Kelce<\/strong>\u2019s romance with Olympia\u2019s favorite singer while\u00a0hosting the 2024 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles. \u201cCongratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,\u201d she said, quipping, \u201cThis year,\u00a0Patrick Mahomes<\/strong> and Taylor Swift\u2019s boyfriend won a Super Bowl.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
