But the show goes on and winners will be crowned. They\u2019re hardly the only ones, though. Few artists epitomize that like\u00a0Chappell Roan, whose debut full-length,\u00a0<em>The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess<\/em>, has been a bottomless gold mine of vibrant, deeply felt pop. \u201c\u2018Good Luck, Babe!\u2019 was the song that finally propelled her,\u201d says Spotify\u2019s Talia Kraines, senior editor of pop, \u201cbut it\u2019s been truly fascinating to watch everybody really dig into her catalog \u2014 nearly the entire album is in the Spotify Top 200.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\">Elsewhere, Billie Eilish\u2019s sharply drawn, yet tenderly felt\u00a0<em>Hit Me Hard and Soft<\/em>, says Kraines, \u201cwas really her being a twentysomething instead of a teenager \u2014 it was incredibly relatable despite her being one of the most famous people in the world.\u201d Charli XCX\u2019s\u00a0<em>Brat<\/em>\u00a0introduced her as a solo artist to a whole new audience while staying true to her future-pop ideals. \u201cWe\u2019ve always known she had it in her,\u201d says Kraines.\u00a0But don\u2019t overlook the unbridled artistry of\u00a0Andr\u00e9\u00a03000\u2019s flute adventure\u00a0<em>New Blue Sun<\/em>, just the kind of eclectic release Grammy voters often like to reward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Should Win<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Beyonc\u00e9 \u2013\u00a0<em>Cowboy Carter<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nBeyonc\u00e9 is the winningest artist in Grammy Awards history \u2014 but somehow has never won Album of the Year.\u00a0<em>Cowboy Carter<\/em>\u00a0could fix that: It\u2019s an important history lesson about Black contributions to American music, as well as an introduction to the next generation of Black country music. \u201cUplifting other Black female country artists, and creating important conversations that needed to happen, is so important,\u201d says Kraines. It makes for a fairly wide-open Record of the Year field that balances star-power (Beyonc\u00e9! Billie! Taylor with Posty!) with new talent (Shaboozey!) and surprises (The Beatles?!). Kendrick Lamar\u2019s \u201cNot Like Us\u201d could be the category\u2019s spoiler, however. An undeniable sensation immediately upon its surprise release, the DJ Mustard-produced banger\u2019s popularity has only grown, with marching bands\u00a0picking up its mantle\u00a0for the fall\u2019s football season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Should Win<br \/>\nChappell Roan \u2013 \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>Few songs have been as universally embraced this year as \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d \u2014\u00a0everyone from Franz Ferdinand and Miranda Lambert with Kelly Clarkson have\u00a0covered it\u00a0live. Roots band Josiah and the Bonnevilles even released an acoustic cover last summer. The song, which Roan told\u00a0<em>RS<\/em>\u00a0was about \u201cwishing good luck to someone who is denying fate,\u201d is fully in the zeitgeist. It\u2019s also her most streamed song.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Will Win<br \/>\nBillie Eilish \u2013 \u201cBirds of a Feather\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nEilish\u2019s \u201cBirds of a Feather\u201d is a pop gem that showed how the eclectic artist\u2019s vocal interpretations have matured since her late-\u201810s breakthrough. And while Chappell Roan is sure to take home Best New Artist, it would be gratifying to see Sabrina Carpenter win in this category (after all, she\u2019s a singer who\u2019s been\u00a0working late). \u201cI\u2019m just so happy to see Sabrina get her due,\u201d Tear says. \u201cIt\u2019s time. She\u2019s been on the game in this scene for close to a decade, and it\u2019s her turn to get flowers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Will Win<br \/>\nChappell Roan \u2013 \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d<br \/>\n<\/strong>This was the year of Chappell Roan, and it all starts with her biggest hit: \u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The explosive track is so beloved \u2014 even Tom Morello\u00a0is a fan\u00a0\u2014 yet many think her success was overnight. \u201cWhat\u2019s so infuriating is how people are just now taking me seriously,\u201d she told\u00a0<em>Rolling Stone\u00a0<\/em>in her\u00a0cover story.\u00a0\u201cLike, \u2018You know what, bitch? I\u2019ve been doing this shit and you\u2019re just now catching up.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u201cGood Luck, Babe!\u201d is Billie Eilish\u2019s favorite song of the year. While they\u2019re all massive achievements, Best New Artist is the ultimate award, signaling a star\u2019s arrival. This year\u2019s race will likely come down to Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan. But Doechii, currently with momentum on her side, as well as Shaboozey, Benson Boone, and Teddy Swims all have to be considered potential spoilers. \u201cIn the middle of this Brat year, [Boone] has done a masterful job with connecting to the masses,\u201d says Alex Tear, SiriusXM\u2019s vice president of music programming, who also raves about Swims. \u201cHe\u2019s got an amazing, memorable voice, and he\u2019s got the swag. \u2018The Door\u2019 is a song that just won\u2019t stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Should Win<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Chappell Roan<\/strong><br \/>\nRoan famously described herself as \u201cyour favorite artist\u2019s favorite artist,\u201d but that was before she had nearly 6 million followers on Instagram and received an invitation to the White House (spoiler alert: she\u00a0turned it down). For those who are into nostalgia, Eminem\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Death of Slim Shady<\/em>\u00a0could fit the bill \u2014 the Detroit rapper scored his first nomination since 2019. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be surprised if Eminem takes it,\u201d Chery says. \u201cThis album does feel like the best reception we\u2019ve seen from an Eminem album in years and it performed well commercially \u2026 For someone who\u2019s now in his 50s, Eminem is going in a different direction. You\u2019ve been around for a while, your numbers are supposed to drop \u2026 His audience is getting younger.\u201d All that said, no rapper is coming into the Grammys hotter than Doechii.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Should Win<br \/>\nDoechii \u2013\u00a0<em>Alligator Bites Never Heal<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nBack in October, we saw Doechii tear down Webster Hall in New York and realized that could very well be the last time she tours in a venue of that capacity. It was an incredible performance in the midst of a star-making 2024 for the Florida artist. The Grammys should always want to be in on hip-hop\u2019s cultural zeitgeist, and that means a Best Rap Album trophy, among others, for three-time nominee Doechii.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Will Win<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Doechii \u2013\u00a0<em>Alligator Bites Never Heal<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>When we spoke to Chery, he was on the fence about how much Top Dawg Entertainment and Doechii\u2019s team would push for Grammy consideration, given that her debut album is still on the way (<em>Alligator Bites Never Heal<\/em>\u00a0is technically a mixtape). The projects that tend to do best are either straight-ahead rock or hard-to-categorize experimentalism: As examples, Rosalia\u2019s\u00a0<em>Motomami\u00a0<\/em>took the prize in 2023, while Juanes and Natalia Lafourcade shared the award in an unexpected tie last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\">This year\u00a0appears to be another wild-card race, with tons of releases that show the diversity of Spanish-language albums. Jos\u00e9 Luis Mercado, who\u2019s behind the popular Latin music platform and social media account Rock En Las Americas, says he\u2019s been noticing a split in what artists are doing: The release cycle has been full of compendiums that nod to the past and the history of Latin alternative sounds, and projects from newer artists discovering entirely different directions. Elsewhere, modern acts dove head first into genre-defying styles that capture fresh new energy. Mercado points to records like\u00a0Nathy Peluso\u2019s long-awaited second LP,\u00a0<em>Grasa<\/em>. \u201cThey can enter hip-hop territory; they can enter alternative territory,\u201d he says. \u201cThey can do a lot of genres at once, and they feel comfortable in all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l\"><strong>Who Should Win<br \/>\nMon Laferte \u2013\u00a0<em>Autopoi\u00e9tica<\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong>A lot of people are gambling on Mon Laferte \u2014 and for good reason. \u201cIt would be a good indicator of her musical career. We\u2019re talking about an artist who has spent much more than a decade in the music scene, and she still hasn\u2019t won an Anglo Grammy,\u201d Mercado says. He also notes that the album\u2019s theme of reinvention and recreation would make a win particularly satisfying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Will Win<br \/>\n<em>Nathy Peluso \u2013\u00a0Grasa<br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>Peluso and Laferte stand out as having the biggest chance here. Both straddle the line between representing a more modern sound while having a foot rooted in the classics, and they\u2019ve been nominated before. In 2022, Mon Laferte\u2019s album\u00a0<em>SEIS<\/em>\u00a0was up for Best M\u00fasica Mexicana Album, and in 2023, her project\u00a0<em>1940 Carmen<\/em>\u00a0was also a big contender for this category. Mick, Keith, and the band, meanwhile, haven\u2019t even attempted a record of new songs since the uneven\u00a0<em>A Bigger Bang<\/em>. Most fans presumed they\u2019d never get around to it. And nobody expected anything even remotely on the level of\u00a0<em>Hackney Diamonds<\/em>. The album is an absolute miracle and the Stones richly deserve another Grammy: The band has been awarded a scant three Grammys across their six-decade career. \u201cI really think it\u2019s going to the Stones this year,\u201d says SiriusXM DJ Justin Kade. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of how you give someone an MVP or lifetime achievement award.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Will Win<br \/>\nThe Rolling Stones \u2013\u00a0<em>Hackney Diamonds<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s the tiredest of tired rock critic clich\u00e9s to say the Rolling Stones have made their best record since 1981\u2019s\u00a0<em>Tattoo You<\/em>, but there\u2019s an actual argument that they actually pulled it off with\u00a0<em>Hackney Diamonds<\/em>. Expectations were low since they hadn\u2019t released an album of original songs since 2005\u2019s\u00a0<em>A Bigger Bang<\/em>, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are in their 80s now, and drummer Charlie Watts died in 2021. But working closely with producer Andrew Watt over the course of just a few weeks, they hammered out a series of excellent songs like \u201cAngry,\u201d \u201cSweet Sounds of Heaven,\u201d \u00a0and \u201cBite My Head Off\u201d that fit seamlessly into the set lists of their summer stadium tour.
