Sacramento Kings point guard De\u2019Aaron Fox is the latest star to hit the trade market, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Tuesday, Jan. 28.<\/p>\n
Fox is a clutch player and a difference-maker who fits the type of star who could push the Los Angeles Lakers to put all their trade chips on the table.<\/p>\n
However, the bad news is that the Lakers are not Fox\u2019s preferred destination, according to Charania.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thing I can say, with Rich Paul, we know he\u2019s got LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the Lakers. I\u2019m told the Lakers are not part of that destination of choice for De\u2019Aaron Fox potentially,\u201d Charania reported on \u201cNBA Today.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Sam Amick of The Athletic also reported the same thing about Fox and his disinterest in the Lakers.<\/p>\n \u201cAccording to the league source, Paul is expected to field all calls from interested teams and remain open about where Fox might land. Next summer, Fox will be eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension.<\/p>\n Multiple reports from Amick,\u00a0former ESPN senior reporter Zach Lowe\u00a0and\u00a0James Ham of ESPN1320 Sacramento\u00a0all point to the Lakers\u2019 Western Conference rivals San Antonio Spurs as Fox\u2019s preferred landing spot.<\/p>\n The Lakers had a chance to select Fox in the 2017 NBA Draft but they opted for hometown kid\u00a0Lonzo Ball, the former UCLA star, at No. 2.<\/p>\n Fox eventually fell to the Kings at No. 5 even after he exploded for 39 points against Ball, leading Kentucky over UCLA in their Sweet 16 matchup to advance to the Elite Eight.<\/p>\n Ball was later packaged by the Lakers to acquire Davis while Fox became an All-Star and All-NBA player in 2023. He was also named the NBA Clutch Player of the Year in 2023.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not the first time an NBA star is shunning the Lakers.<\/p>\n In the offseason,\u00a0Klay Thompson\u00a0declined to join the Lakers\u00a0despite James personally recruiting him\u00a0and even if\u00a0their offer was greater\u00a0than what he got from the\u00a0Dallas Mavericks\u00a0which\u00a0disappointed his dad, former Laker Mychal Thompson.<\/p>\n Miami Heat\u2018s disgruntled star\u00a0Jimmy Butler also did not list the Lakers as one of his preferred destinations.<\/p>\n James and Davis have publicly voiced the limitation of the Lakers\u2019 current roster despite their current place (fifth in the West) in the standing, putting more pressure on their front office to swing for a significant trade.<\/p>\n James told reporters\u00a0after a loss to crosstown rivals Clippers earlier in the month that they \u201cdon\u2019t have room for error \u2014 for much error\u201d as their roster is currently constructed.<\/p>\n Davis then backed him up by\u00a0telling Charania in a sit-down interview\u00a0that they are one to two pieces away from becoming a title contender and specifically said he wants a center next to him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Sacramento Kings point guard De\u2019Aaron Fox is the latest star to hit the trade market, Shams Charania of ESPN reported on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
