Lakers&#8217; Christian Koloko gets medical clearance from NBA after career-threatening issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/res.cloudinary.com\/ybmedia\/image\/upload\/c_crop,h_782,w_1391,x_314,y_345\/c_fill,f_auto,h_900,q_auto,w_1600\/v1\/m\/b\/f\/bf6197c16097e566ef207044770aaf9f3e86e2ed\/lakers-christian-koloko-gets-medical-clearance-nba.jpg\" alt=\"Lakers' Christian Koloko gets medical clearance from NBA\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Big man Christian Koloko, who is on a two-way contract with the Lakers, has received medical clearance from the NBA\u2019s Fitness-to-Play panel that will allow him to resume his career, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Koloko missed all of the 2023-24 season due to a career-threatening blood clot issue.<\/p>\n<p>His agent, Calvin Andrews, said over the summer that the former Raptor underwent corrective surgery to address that issue.<\/p>\n<p>After being cleared to resume working out and scrimmaging, Koloko caught on with the Lakers, signing a two-way contract with the club.<\/p>\n<p>However, he still required formal clearance from the league, whose Fitness-to-Play panel (which consists of three physicians) has the final say in instances of career-threatening health conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Now that he has gotten the go-ahead from the league, Koloko will start practicing with the Lakers and is set to begin his ramp-up process toward game action, says Charania.<\/p>\n<p>The 7\u20191\u2033 center will likely spend some time in the G League before he makes his Lakers debut at the NBA level, but we\u2019ll have to wait to see what L.A.\u2019s plan is.<\/p>\n<p>The South Bay Lakers\u2019 season doesn\u2019t begin until November 9 and the NBA\u2019s Lakers are missing some depth up front with Christian Wood recovering from knee surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The 33rd overall pick in the 2022 draft, Koloko appeared in 58 games (19 starts) for the Raptors as a rookie, averaging 3.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 block in 13.8 minutes per contest.<\/p>\n<p>He was the Pac 12\u2019s Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player in his final college season at Arizona in 2021-22.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Big man Christian Koloko, who is on a two-way contract with the Lakers, has received medical clearance from the NBA\u2019s Fitness-to-Play panel that will allow him to&#8230; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":2223,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2222","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nba"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Breaking!!
