Taylor Swift said making history as the most decorated artist at the Billboard Music Awards was the \u201cnicest early birthday present\u201d.<\/p>\n
The US pop superstar scooped 10 awards, including for top artist and top Billboard 200 album for The Tortured Poets Department, bringing her total haul to 49.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is like the nicest early birthday present you could have given me, so thank you very much,\u201d Swift said in a pre-recorded acceptance speech ahead of her 35th birthday on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it. It\u2019s exactly what I wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n
Her other wins included top female artist, top Hot 100 artist and top Hot 100 songwriter, prizes which Swift considered fan-voted awards \u201cbecause you guys are the ones who care about our albums and come see us in concert\u201d.<\/p>\n
It comes after Swift concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour on Sunday, which engulfed popular culture and dominated news coverage during its 21-month run.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything that has happened with the Eras Tour and The Tortured Poets Department, I just have to say thank you,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means the world to me that you guys have embraced the things I\u2019ve made, and the fact that you\u2019ve cared so much about my music.\u201d<\/p>\n
The awards ceremony also saw big wins for British stars Dua Lipa, Coldplay and Charli XCX \u2013 who scored top dance electronic artist and top dance electronic album for Brat.<\/p>\n
Dua Lipa said receiving the award for top dance electronic song for track Houdini \u201cmeans the world to me\u201d in a pre-recorded video.<\/p>\n
The pop superstar apologised for being unable to attend the ceremony as she is on her Radical Optimism tour in Asia.<\/p>\n
She described the award as \u201cso cool\u201d before praising fans for \u201cdancing with me to Houdini\u201d, adding: \u201cLet\u2019s carry on dancing\u201d.<\/p>\n
Coldplay, whose stadium performance of new track All My Love aired during the broadcast, won top rock touring artist.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you so much Billboard for giving us this award, handsome-ist old man band in the world and we\u2019re so grateful to you all,\u201d frontman Chris Martin joked in a pre-recorded speech.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope you\u2019re having a great time and we send love to you from Australia,\u201d he added, signing off the video message with the word \u201cearth\u201d.<\/p>\n
The ceremony also saw top new artist go to US pop star Chappell Roan, who said it had \u201ctaken a long time\u201d to break into the industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s awesome to be recognised, all these years of hard work are truly paying off,\u201d she said in a pre-recorded speech.<\/p>\n
Other big wins included rapper Drake who took home top rap artist, top rap male artist and top rap album For All The Dogs, while while Doja Cat scooped top rap female artist and top rap song went to Kendrick Lamar for Not Like Us.<\/p>\n
SZA also scooped top R&B artist and top R&B female artist, while Bruno Mars was named the top R&B touring artist.<\/p>\n
Shaboozey described it as a \u201cdream come true\u201d to win top song sales artist, top selling song and top country song for his hit track A Bar Song (Tipsy) \u2013 which he performed during the ceremony.<\/p>\n
US star Teddy Swims also said scooping top hot 100 song and top radio song at the Billboard awards was \u201cabsolutely bonkers\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cLose Control has changed my life,\u201d he said of his hit track, which he performed during the broadcast, alongside song Bad Dreams.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just so grateful\u2026 Thank you for letting a fat kid from Conyers win,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The ceremony featured performances from Jelly Roll, who won the award for top hard rock song with his track All My Life, and Tyla \u2013 who received top Afrobeats artist and top Afrobeats song for her track Water.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
