Congratulations are in order for Travis Kelce!<\/p>\n
<\/div>\n
The 35-year-old tight end is officially a nominee for the NFL\u2019s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which recognizes players who \u201cdemonstrate a steadfast commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelce is one of 32 nominees for the award, the winner of which will be announced on Feb. 6 during the\u00a0NFL Honors ceremony.<\/p>\n
The Chiefs celebrated Kelce\u2019s nomination with a special video shared on social media, showing him sweetly talking about his work in the Kansas City community through his foundation, 87 & Running \u2014 and as a child, running football drills.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrowing up, I had a beautiful childhood and that has everything to do with my parents,\u201d Kelce said in the video, crediting his mom Donna and dad Ed.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
The tight end said he loved growing up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, calling it \u201csuch a melting pot of social class and race and religion.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I was able to relate to all those kids growing up,\u201d Kelce continued. \u201cI don\u2019t care what you look like, where you come from; I\u2019m gonna be friendly and lend a helping hand.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kelce said he started his foundation because he \u201creally wanted to make sure that the city felt as much love from me as I do on Sundays,\u201d and he feels like he\u2019s accomplished that through his community work.<\/p>\n
Specifically, Kelce pointed to Operation Breakthrough, which aids the Kansas City youth living in poverty.<\/p>\n
The Chiefs star said the effort is \u201ca beautiful thing to be a part of\u201d and it\u2019s \u201cmade me a better person and made me a better man,\u201d in the touching video.<\/p>\n
Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt issued a statement following Kelce\u2019s nomination, calling him \u201cone of the most dynamic individuals in all of football, both on and off the field.\u201d Hunt said the NFL star is a \u201ctremendous leader, a role model for young people in Kansas City and an inspiration to football fans around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
