Arsenal star David Raya names the \u2018best goalkeeper in the world\u2019<\/p>\n

\n

David Raya says it is \u2018nice\u2019 to be considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world but believes Thibaut Courtois is a level above the rest of the field.<\/p>\n

Raya has quickly developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since joining Arsenal ahead of the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n

There was a debate over who would start under Mikel Arteta when Raya left Brentford to join Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates Stadium but the Spaniard quickly won the battle, ultimately resulting in Ramsdale\u2019s departure last summer.<\/p>\n

England legend Alan Shearer recently said Raya was \u2018one of the best\u2019 in the Premier League, while the 29-year-old was hailed as \u2018one of the best in the world\u2019 by pundits earlier in the season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Asked whether he agrees with that assessment, Raya said: \u2018I have different aspirations, but that\u2019s a conversation for you guys to have.<\/p>\n

\u2018Of course, it\u2019s nice to be in that talk and it\u2019ll be nice to be there, but my aspiration is just to play football, to be the best version I am and be better tomorrow and the day after, so that\u2019s what I\u2019m thinking right now.\u2019<\/p>\n

Raya also revealed he rates Real Madrid\u2019s Courtois as the best goalkeeper in the game right now.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Gunners face Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with Raya set to come up against goalscoring machine Viktor Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

Asked how Arsenal plan to stop Gyokeres, who has 24 goals in 19 games this season, Raya said: \u2018We know his strengths.<\/p>\n

\u2018We know he runs a lot in behind, he scores a lot of goals in 1v1 and of course, he\u2019s a top player who is in form.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u2018We\u2019re going to try to keep him very, very quiet, don\u2019t give him many chances.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think we have stepped up defensively, so hopefully we can do a great job and keep a clean sheet tomorrow, so that\u2019ll be the best thing for us.\u2019<\/p>\n

On Portuguese league leaders Sporting, Raya added: \u2018We know it\u2019s a tough opponent. They\u2019re really, really in form in both competitions.<\/p>\n

\u2018They score a lot of goals but we are focused on ourselves. We want to be ourselves, to play the football that we want to play and that we know how to play it and to make it very, very difficult for them to create chances and make it very, very difficult for them to win the game.<\/p>\n
