But now a month into the season, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Giddey\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> $25 million average annual value is getting praised as one of the best offseason deals in the NBA. Most recently, John Hollinger of The Athletic described the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bulls\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> move to sign Giddey to that deal as<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> \u2018<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">brilliant<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cW<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">hatever you think of the trade that brought him to the Windy City in the first place, the Chicago <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Bulls\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> decision to re-sign Josh Giddey for four years and $100 million in restricted free agency looks brilliant,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Giddey had shown signs in the past of becoming a leading player, but without a guarantee, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">there\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a chance the $100 million deal could have gone south. Through 14 games, he leads the Bulls in scoring, assists, and minutes while helping the team to an 8-6 record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Not bad for $25 million a year.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Josh <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Giddey\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Contract Is A Steal<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last offseason, Chicago sent Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a trade for Giddey. He was consistent last year, and while the scoring was relatively minimal, he was <\/span>a \u2018do it all\u2019 player <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">for the Bulls who filled up the statsheet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chicago <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">didn\u2019t<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> go anywhere record-wise, sitting at a close to .500 mark <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">they\u2019ve<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> been at all decade.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> But Giddey showed promise, and as a restricted free agent, the Bulls had a decision to make.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He was one of the last players to sign a deal this offseason, and initially, many saw it as an overpay. But now, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">it\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> hardly fair to say the contract <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">wasn\u2019t<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> anything but a steal for the Bulls. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to Hollinger, its value only means more good things for Chicago in terms of either <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">keeping<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> or <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">bringing in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> talent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">H<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">e\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> playing like a max-contract superstar while occupying just $25 million on <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chicago\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> books for the three seasons after this one; partly as a result, Chicago <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is set up<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to have max cap room this summer to bring in more talent around him and Coby White,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hollinger wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">At $25 million a year, Giddey is making the same as players like Anfernee Simons, Christian Braun, Naz Reid, and Draymond Green. While <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the value of some of those players compared to Giddey could be argued<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, none are even close to putting up the 20.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game as the number one option for his team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cG<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">iddey is off to a brilliant start that has him nearly averaging a triple-double,<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201d <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hollinger added.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> \u201c<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">And <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">he\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> playing at a level that could end in his making his first All-Star team at age 23<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> not Austin Reaves on the <\/span>Lakers <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> level, but still great value for Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Bulls Are Fun If Nothing Else<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Your thoughts on the Chicago Bulls might change depending on the type of night you watch them. In some games, the offensive firepower looks unstoppable. In others, the entire team seems determined to give up the most points possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Those trends have been evident since head coach Billy Donovan started running the team. However, since <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Giddey\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> arrival, one thing has been clear for the Bulls: they are exciting to watch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To exemplify both of these two points, look no further than <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chicago\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> latest win over the Portland Trail Blazers. For much of the night, they had the league, with Giddey, White, Nikola Vucevic, and the rest of the team putting up solid numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, in the fourth quarter, while up 18 points, the Bulls <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">forgot how<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to score. They went on to drop only eight points in nine minutes in the fourth quarter, eventually losing the lead to the Blazers with less than a minute left.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Down four with ten seconds left, White hit a three to close it to one. The Bulls fouled, and Portland made one of their free throws to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">go back up two<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. But as time was expiring, White passed the ball to Vucevic, who hit a three-pointer for the win.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As ugly as the game was, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> been the story for the Bulls over the past two years. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It\u2019s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> yet to <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be seen<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> if Giddey leading this cast can make any noise in the playoffs, but they offer the chance to knock off any team on any given night.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chicago has <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">been stuck<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in mediocrity.
