The Bulls have some clarity about guard Coby White\u2019s<\/b> return from injury, but they don\u2019t have a specific date.<\/p>\n
What they learned Monday, however, is that White (strained right calf) can go through an entire practice, even if it was with the Windy City Bulls, their G League affiliate. If he has no setbacks, White might be back at some point on the Bulls\u2019 upcoming western swing. He has yet to make his season debut.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018Everything that I heard was that it went well,\u2019\u2019 head coach Billy Donovan<\/b> said. \u2018\u2018I think the biggest thing is always trying to find out the next day how it went. The plan right now .\u2009.\u2009. would be to get back into practice with us when we get back from [the game Wednesday in] Detroit. We\u2019ll have three days. One of those days, we\u2019ll certainly have contact. The plan is to get him into that practice pretty extensively.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Considering Donovan and the Bulls were without guard Josh Giddey<\/b> (sprained right ankle) for the game Monday against the Spurs, the sooner White can return, the better. After all, having another 20-point scorer in the lineup wouldn\u2019t be a bad thing.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018To his credit, I think he\u2019s kept himself in pretty good shape and, in particular, with his weight,\u2019\u2019 Donovan said of White. \u2018\u2018I think he\u2019s at a good weight for himself, considering he hasn\u2019t played in too many games. He\u2019s done a good job taking care of himself, so right now everything seems to be progressing in the right direction.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
If White gets through the full-contact practice this weekend, Donovan will have a better idea about a return by the time the Bulls leave for Utah.<\/p>\n
As for Giddey, his absence shouldn\u2019t be a long one. He injured the ankle in the Bulls\u2019 loss Saturday to the Cavaliers and isn\u2019t expected to miss much time.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018I don\u2019t think it\u2019s anything too severe with his ankle, but I think with what we\u2019ve got coming .\u2009.\u2009. I just think he didn\u2019t feel great,\u2019\u2019 Donovan said. \u2018\u2018We\u2019ll see how he feels going to Detroit.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The injury to Giddey, which came courtesy of Cavaliers forward De\u2019Andre Hunter\u2019s<\/b> crossover seen around the NBA universe, wasn\u2019t his finest moment, especially considering how viral it has become on social media.<\/p>\n
Donovan, however, was oblivious to it. He doesn\u2019t have social media and doesn\u2019t even know where to find a meme on the play.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018I didn\u2019t necessarily focus on what happened,\u2019\u2019 Donovan said of the crossover. \u2018\u2018I saw [Giddey] go down and the way he grabbed his ankle. I wasn\u2019t really paying attention to the shot and Cleveland. I just didn\u2019t know how severe it was.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
When a media member joked with Donovan about being surprised he even knew what a meme was, Donovan laughed and admitted he didn\u2019t and was just repeating what he was asked.<\/p>\n
White wasn\u2019t the only Bulls player to get a practice in with Windy City. Rookie forward Noa Essengue<\/b> also spent the afternoon getting some court time in.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2018It was good,\u2019\u2019 Essengue said. \u2018\u2018It\u2019s something where you get a lot of reps just so you can get better. You get back with some of the guys you were with in Summer League, so it\u2019s good.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Essengue, the No. 12 overall pick in the draft in June, hasn\u2019t played in a regular-season game yet.<\/p>\n
