He was knocked out of last week\u2019s win over the Las Vegas Raiders, missing the majority of the game after suffering the back injury.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Andy Reid said earlier in the week that Smith was showing some improvement, but the team would need to see how he progressed through the week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then Trey (Smith), he\u2019s got low back spasms, and so we\u2019ll see if that doesn\u2019t \u2014 it\u2019s getting better,\u201d Reid told reporters on Thursday, via AtoZ Sports. \u201cWe\u2019ll just see how it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Smith then proceeded to miss the next two practices, leading to the team\u2019s doubtful designation on Saturday. It\u2019s not clear if he\u2019s in danger of missing the team\u2019s next game as they face the Buffalo Bills on a short week, the final game before their bye week.<\/p>\n<p>As Zak Gilbert of SI.com noted, Smith is now in danger of missing his first game in more than three years. The guard has been a stalwart through most of his career, missing only one previous game since being drafted four years ago.<\/p>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_cct4tdwi9\">\u201cPro Bowl right guard Trey Smith, listed as doubtful with lower-back spasms, hasn\u2019t missed a game since Oct. 10, 2022, when a pectoral injury forced him to miss a 30-29 win over the Raiders,\u201d Gilbert wrote. \u201cIncluding postseason, Smith has started 87 of a possible 88 games since the Chiefs selected him in the sixth round of the 2021 draft.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 data-mm-id=\"_cct4tdwi9\">Chiefs Give Update on Josh Simmons<\/h2>\n<p data-mm-id=\"_cct4tdwi9\">The Chiefs have already missed tackle Josh Simmons while he is on personal leave from the team. While the team has not given many details on the reason for the absence or when he is expected to return, head coach Andy Reid had a somewhat positive update on Simmons this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy update for you with Josh would just be, there\u2019s communication,\u201d Reid told reporters, via CBS Sports. \u201cI\u2019m not going to get into all of it. Everything\u2019s positive. It\u2019s not a negative situation. He\u2019s taking care of family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also addressed the absence, saying he has been in contact with Simmons but wants to respect the rookie\u2019s privacy regarding the absence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll keep conversations kind of between us,\u201d Mahomes told reporters last week. \u201cBut I\u2019m always praying for him. I\u2019m praying for all my teammates, so I\u2019m always praying for him.
