\"SHOCKER!Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.<\/p>\n

After news of a \u201cback\u201d injury for Kansas City Chiefs starting cornerback Jaylen Watson in Week 8, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was asked about veteran free agent acquisition Kristian Fulton, who has not seen the field since Week 2.<\/p>\n

And his response made it seem like Fulton has simply fallen down the depth chart due to circumstances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, a couple of things [have prevented him from reentering the starting rotation]. That\u2019s a hard thing for Kristian right now,\u201d Spagnuolo said of Fulton on October 24. \u201cAnd I think he\u2019s getting there health wise, but now you\u2019ve lost all the practice time, lost all the reps. Nohl [Williams] has gone in there and done a really nice job. And we\u2019ll see where it goes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI talk to [Fulton], usually, weekly about, \u2018Be ready,\u2019 because inevitably in this league, you\u2019re going to need more than two or three and sometimes even four corners,\u201d the long-time Chiefs DC said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to need them all. So, at some point we\u2019re going to need him, and he\u2019s working hard at it. It\u2019s just that \u2014 and especially with where we\u2019re going with practices now \u2014 we just can\u2019t get that volume of reps for guys. So we\u2019re kind of sticking where we\u2019re at right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

After signing a two-year, $20 million contract this spring, Fulton has only been on the field for 17 defensive snaps over the first seven weeks of football. As of now, it seems the Chiefs are comfortable with keeping him in that depth role, but things could change if another starter falters or suffers an injury.<\/p>\n

Chiefs Rookie CB Nohl Williams Has Taken Kristian Fulton\u2019s Job Early On in 2025<\/h2>\n

Fulton was signed to play on the perimeter across from Watson, allowing star DB Trent McDuffie to shift back into his more natural role in the slot. However, the Chiefs doubled down on this area of need, drafting the aforementioned Nohl Williams in late April.<\/p>\n

What Spagnuolo basically admitted on Friday, October 24, is that Williams has stolen Fulton\u2019s job as of Week 8.<\/p>\n

Week 7 isn\u2019t the best case study for snap counts, being that the Chiefs pulled some of their starters toward the tail end of the blowout victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, but it\u2019s easy to see that Williams is third on the CB depth chart behind McDuffie and Watson.<\/p>\n
