Taylor Swift shared her candid thoughts on the passionate range of reactions to \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d She thanked the fans who \u201cimmediately\u201d got the album\u2019s emotion and themes \u2014 but she also had words for the critics.<\/p>\n

While appearing on Apple Music\u2019s \u201cThe Zane Lowe Show,\u201d Swift said she \u201cwelcomes the chaos\u201d seeing that it\u2019s a \u201crule of show business\u201d: \u201cIf it\u2019s the first week of my album release and you are saying either my name or my album title, you\u2019re helping,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd art, I have a lot of respect for people\u2019s subjective opinions on art. I\u2019m not the art police. It\u2019s like everybody is allowed to feel exactly how they want. And what our goal is as entertainers is to be a mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n

The record has received mixed reviews from critics with some praise for its unabashed, joyful sound, while others criticize the lyrics for their perceived lack of depth.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn \u2018The Life of a Showgirl,\u2019 though, love seems easy-fought. And the belief that it might actually be a breeze, instead of, like, the eye of a hurricane, makes for an album that stands as close to being an uncomplicated good time as anything she\u2019s ever done,\u201d writes Variety<\/em>\u2018s Chris Willman.<\/p>\n

\u201cOftentimes, an album is a really, really wild way to look at yourself,\u201d Swift told Lowe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat you\u2019re going through in your life is going to affect whether you relate to the music that I\u2019m putting out at any given moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter also made a revealing statement about what empowers her to make music: \u201cWe\u2019re doing this thing for keeps. I have such an eye on legacy when I\u2019m making my music. I know what I made. I know I adore it, and I know that on the theme of what the Showgirl is, all of this is part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
