Taylor Swift is still adjusting to\u00a0The Life of a Showgirl, even after nearly two decades in the music business. On Sept. 29, the singer\u00a0released a new commercial\u00a0for Target to promote the store\u2019s exclusive vinyl of\u00a0her upcoming 12th album, in which she cleverly makes fun of herself and proves that being a showgirl isn\u2019t as easy as it may look.<\/p>\n

In the new ad, Swift takes on the role of director \u2014\u00a0perhaps a hint that she will helm her\u00a0upcoming music video\u00a0for \u201cThe Fate of Ophelia,\u201d much like how she\u2019s self-directed most of\u00a0her videos\u00a0in the past five years. This time, she\u2019s trying to direct a star who isn\u2019t quite following her cues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlright, we\u2019re still rolling, we\u2019re going to try this again, OK? We\u2019re\u00a0elegant, we\u2019re\u00a0luxurious, we\u2019re in front of the most beautiful pink vinyl we\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d Swift commands into a matching pink megaphone. \u201cWhat is going on with the posture? It\u2019s giving no, girl, not showgirl. What are we doing?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course, she\u2019s trying to direct herself, dressed in full showgirl garb. Instead of giving \u201celegance\u201d and \u201ccharm\u201d like director Swift asks, showgirl Swift clumsily throws glitter around and nearly falls backwards on her stilettos. \u201cShe\u2019s got cat hair all over her,\u201d director Swift whispers, referencing her three cats.<\/p>\n

To her credit, the director refuses to give up on her star. \u201cIs there a school we can very quickly send her to?\u201d she asks, as showgirl Swift holds up a Target-exclusive poster while knocking down a paint can. \u201cCome on, honey, this is show business,\u201d she concludes, subtly nodding to her one of the songs on her new album, \u201cHoney.\u201d<\/p>\n

Posting the ad on social media, Swift was also optimistic that her showgirl self could get it together before the album release. \u201cShe\u2019s got 4 days left to rehearse for her big moment\u2026,\u201d she wrote, with a crying laughing emoji.<\/p>\n
