Author-turned-showrunner\u00a0Jenny Han\u00a0delivered not one but two major moments with Swift as the backdrop: \u201cDress\u201d played while Belly (Lola Tung) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) finally kissed in the Paris moonlight, followed by \u201cOut of the Woods,\u201d which played as Belly chased Conrad down in the train station to tell him she loved him.<\/p>\n

Fresh off the exciting news that\u00a0the Prime Video series will return in a feature film written and directed by Han, the author breaks down those two finale song choices.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t remember when I decided on \u2018Dress,\u2019 but I love the song. It\u2019s one of my favorite songs off the album, so I was really excited to use it,\u201d Han tells PEOPLE of the\u00a0Reputation<\/em>\u00a0track.<\/p>\n

The song not only tracked Belly and Conrad as they couldn\u2019t keep their hands off each other all the way to her apartment, but Han also included a pause to let Conrad tell Belly that he \u201cdreams\u201d of being with her. \u201cIt\u2019s really sexy, it\u2019s passionate, and I thought it would be great in that moment,\u201d Han says.<\/p>\n

\u201cOut of the Woods\u201d is a song Han has had on the back burner for quite some time.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor \u2018Out of the Woods\u2019 I had that thought kind of early on, because I wanted the moment, for the audience, to mirror back what was happening for Belly,\u201d she explains. \u201cWhen you hear the beginning of where we sync the music, you\u2019re not sure immediately what [song] it is. But then you\u2019re going to hear that \u2018I remember,\u2019 and she\u2019s having her own moment of remembering who she is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who she is, of course, is \u201ca person who really loves Conrad,\u201d as Han says. \u201cSo I really wanted that kind of feeling of an \u2018aha\u2019 moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Han\u2019s music choice was the perfect cherry on top for those two major Belly-Conrad scenes in the finale, the reality of filming them was different. As Tung tells PEOPLE, \u201cIt\u2019s almost like dance choreography type stuff where it\u2019s very planned out and you just have to hit all the beats and make sure the camera\u2019s moving at the same time as you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re really worried about blocking someone\u2019s light,\u201d Briney adds.<\/p>\n

But still, he tells PEOPLE, \u201cI find you do treat it like any other scene. I mean, I try not to lean too much into or think too much about pressure or how people receive it. I know there\u2019s a lot of people that are Team Conrad and a lot of people that are Team Jeremiah, so in my mind, I\u2019m like, \u2018Some people are going to be happy and some people won\u2019t anyway, so there\u2019s not really any point in putting weight to what I think their version of the right ending is.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Swift\u2019s music has been the backdrop of nearly every major moment in\u00a0The Summer I Turned Pretty\u00a0<\/em>since its 2022 premiere, with songs like \u201cThe Way I Loved You\u201d and \u201cFalse God\u201d marking major moments for Belly and Conrad.<\/p>\n

That was the gift I really wanted to give, because I\u2019m like, they\u2019re gonna go crazy for this.\u201d<\/p>\n
