\"Mets<\/p>\n

Since debuting in 2019, nobody has been able to smash a baseball quite like New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.<\/p>\n

All due respect to Judge and Ohtani, but Alonso is right up there with them on that pedestal.<\/p>\n

And despite some noncommittal comments last week that made his future with the NL East team uncertain, there’s a solid chance that the “Polar Bear” isn’t going anywhere as he tests the free agency waters in the offseason.<\/p>\n

Alonso Predicted to Re-Sign With Mets<\/h2>\n

According to Jackson Roberts with Fastball On SI, predicting the next moves for players with contract options in the 2026 season, Alonso was predicted to opt out of his current deal and re-sign with the Queens club, who currently sit 12 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East standings.<\/p>\n

“There’s little doubt that Alonso will decline his $24 million player option, but now that there’s no qualifying offer attached to him, there could be more suitors than there were last winter,” Roberts said. “It’s very tempting to pick the Seattle Mariners or even a rogue option like the Los Angeles Angels, but Alonso wants to be in New York, so all the Mets have to do is match bids.”<\/p>\n

Alonso has been his normal power-hitting self in 2025, smashing 34 home runs and hitting in 117 runs, and even became New York’s all-time home run leader last month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
