The latest statement from Cowboys owner has put the rest of the NFL on alert. Jerry Jones said that trading Micah Parsons would open up $200M over the next four years, which ‘certainly could’ allow the team to be more aggressive in free agency

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that trading Micah Parsons will open up $200M over the next four years that “certainly could” allow the team to be more aggressive in free agency.

“There’s a lot of room in $200 million.”

He’s frequently mentioned that the team can add “five or six players” as a byproduct of the available cap space opened up by the deal.

The Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers just prior to the 2025-26 NFL season in a deal that has given fans of both teams a new perspective.

The Packers have suddenly become NFC co-favorites along with the Philadelphia Eagles while the Cowboys lost their first game in Philadelphia on the road against their division rivals.

On Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke about the flexibility Dallas has gained since the Parsons trade.

He shared his thoughts on the possibilities the team could explore in free agency now that Parsons is in Green Bay and Dallas is moving on with trade acquisition Kenny Clark and the rest of the team in Parsons’ stead.

Jones’ Optimistic Take on Free Agency

Jones shared an optimistic take on free agency, saying that the Parsons trade could net several new players for the Cowboys’ roster in a roundabout way.

“There’s a lot of room in $200 million,” Jones said.

Reporter Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said that Jones has his eye on the additions of several potential free agents.

“He’s frequently mentioned that the team could add ‘five or six players’ as a byproduct of the available cap space opened up by the deal,” Harris added.

Cowboys Set to Take on Giants

The Cowboys’ Week 1 loss came against a Philadelphia team without the services of star defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who spit on Cowboys QB Dak Prescott prior to the opening kickoff and was ejected.

The Cowboys’ offense looked sharp at times but ultimately didn’t do enough to get the win on the road against last season’s Super Bowl LIX champions.

The Giants have a potential QB controversy brewing with rookie Jaxson Dart biding his time behind Russell Wilson. Dart has spoken candidly about being the best teammate he can among this Giants’ quarterback trio of Wilson, himself and Jameis Winston.

The Cowboys should win Sunday’s game, especially at home, but it won’t be easy against a Brian Daboll coached Giants team that is expected to play loose and with confidence in a game where they have everything to gain and not a whole lot to lose, based on fan expectations.

It’s a big game to say the least for a fanbase still smarting from the loss of Parsons while watching him wreck shop in Green Bay with the Packers.
