It’s never fun to lose. Kansas City Chiefs fans have grown accustomed to avoiding doing just that during the Patrick Mahomes era but, unfortunately, the 2025 season kicked off with a frustrating loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. With the Philadelphia Eagles on deck in Week 2, it’s not unfathomable that the Chiefs start the year 0-2, which would be quite a difficult hole to dig themselves out of.
While appearing on the Up & Adams Show, former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski was asked by host Kay Adams what he saw in that game. His answer might raise some eyebrows.
“What I was surprised about is when things aren’t going their way, as you can see, when they start struggling a little bit, they start yelling at each other, their blame game starts going on, you can see them on the sidelines. And that’s not a good situation. I mean, you want to come together when you’re down, when things aren’t going your way, and you want to come together to figure out why, you know, everything’s not going the way it needs to go. So to see them starting to point fingers is not a good sign. They got to, you know, you know, get incorporated on and get on the same page and not be blaming others.”
Adams then expanded on this answer and brought up the moment when Chris Jones and Drue Tranquil were seen shouting at each other. She pointed out how these types of things never seemed to happen to the Patriots during their dynasty run.
“Remember, Mike Tyson versus Buster Douglas, and Buster Douglas finally beat the crap out of Mike Tyson and made Mike Tyson not invincible anymore? Well, this is kind of the same situation. The Philadelphia Eagles opened the floodgates last year in the Super Bowl versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Like, Hey, we’re not afraid of this super, you know, of this super team, Kansas City Chiefs that are very, very well-known. I feel like a lot of teams last year had that fear. Oh, I can’t swing on the cheese. We, you know, we can’t give them our best shot because they’re so well-known and everyone is, you know, is talking about them,” Gronkowski said. “The Philadelphia Eagles punched them in the face. The Chiefs didn’t know how to react to that because no one else was doing that… Now the Los Angeles Chargers punched them in the face. The Chiefs were like, ‘Whoa, they’re coming at us. How do we react?’ Well, they didn’t know how to react because no one was doing that before. So the Philadelphia Eagles opened that floodgate of, ‘Hey, if you punch these guys in the face, you take it to them. You come out swinging. They’re going to fall. And they’re not going to be the team that you’ve been seeing all last year.'”
Chiefs fans won’t like Rob Gronkowski’s latest comments about their team
Chiefs Kingdom probably won’t like hearing these comments from Gronk but, to his credit, he’s absolutely right. In Kansas City’s last two games, their team has gotten absolutely smacked in the mouth and have not had any idea how to respond in a way that can propel them to victory.
Now this isn’t to say that the sky is falling by any means. It’s one game after all and the Chiefs are still led by the best head coach in the league and the best quarterback in the league. They’re going to get this thing turned around.
That being said, what Gronk is saying makes sense and now the Chiefs have to figure out how they’re going to respond in these games because teams are going to keep coming at them aggressively and hoping they continue to self-implode. The Eagles blew the doors off of them in Super Bowl 59 and while the Chargers didn’t blow K.C. out, they didn’t look fazed by anything the Chiefs threw their way either.
The Chiefs have a huge opportunity ahead of them in Week 2, as they have a chance to exact revenge against the same team that started this onslaught against them. The Eagles are coming to town and if the Chiefs can pull out a victory against the same team that demolished them in the Super Bowl, the narrative will be flipped entirely on its head.
