Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has experienced yet another setback in his career following the mutual termination of his contract. The English player is believed to have had a falling out with Como head coach Cesc Fabregas, which ultimately left him without a club.
Alli made only one appearance for the Italian side, but it was a debut to forget. He received a red card just 10 minutes into the match and never featured for the club again.
Meanwhile, Tottenham favourites Luka Modric and Dele Alli could be set to cross paths. Reports suggest that Modric, now part of the ownership group at Swansea City, has been speaking to free agents about potential moves to the Championship club—and Alli’s name has reportedly come up.
Journalist Ben Jacobs told TalkSport:
“I think Swansea City is going to be really interesting because Luka Modric is now part of that ownership group, and from what I am told, he is having conversations with slightly older players and free agents to try and lure them over there. It would not at all surprise me from what I hear if Swansea City and Dele Alli becomes a thing over the next few weeks. Dele Alli will not get an opportunity, in my opinion, in a big-five league after it did not work out at Como, but maybe a Championship club on a short-term deal.”
Although Modric and Alli never played together at Tottenham, they are both considered fan-favourite midfielders at the club. Modric, a former Ballon d’Or winner, continues to perform at the highest level, having joined AC Milan last summer. Despite his age, he shows little sign of slowing down.
With Modric now involved in the ownership of Swansea City, Alli may be hoping this opportunity can help him rediscover his form and reignite a career that once held immense promise.
