Lakers Showing Interest in Heat’s $109 Million Forward to Bolster Wing Depth

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly showing interest in a forward from the Miami Heat to bolster their wing depth.

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to bounce back after their disappointing first-round playoff exit last season as they try to chase a championship this season.

Of course, the Lakers finished third in the Western Conference standings last season after pulling off the blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic at the trade deadline.

Despite the pairing of Doncic and LeBron James, Los Angeles fell in the first round of the playoffs to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games.

Because of this, Los Angeles decided to make some moves this offseason to bolster their roster around their star duo as they signed Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia in free agency.

With these moves, the Lakers are looking to make a run at a championship this season, though they could elect to make more moves ahead of the trade deadline.

Lakers Showing Interest in Heat’s Andrew Wiggins

One player who has recently been linked to the Lakers is Miami Heat forward and former Golden State Warriors champion Andrew Wiggins.

Wiggins has been in trade rumors for most of the offseason and NBA insider Marc Stein recently reported that the Lakers are showing interest in him to upgrade their forward depth.

“I wouldn’t have classified him as a potential purple-and-gold target before Doncic’s long-term future was secured, but things are different now,” Stein wrote about Wiggins. “So my sense is that the Lakers would have interest if the Heat, in coming weeks or months, decide to prioritize financial flexibility and look to reduce payroll.”

This is a major report by Stein as it appears as though Los Angeles could look to a make a move for Wiggins if the Heat do elect to trade him this season.

Of course, the Heat acquired Wiggins at last season’s trade deadline from the Warriors in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State.

After arriving in Miami, the 30-year-old forward averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while shooting 45.8% from the field and 36.0% from three over 17 games.

Wiggins is a reliable scorer and defender who could fit in nicely next to Doncic and James in the starting lineup as he would give them another weapon on both ends of the court.

Despite this, Miami’s asking price for former champion may be high and Los Angeles may be forced to move one of their young players such as Dalton Knecht.

While that may be the case, Wiggins could be a solid addition to their roster who could help them take another step toward making a run at a championship this season.
