The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their NFL season against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil on Friday, and their most famous fan wasn’t in attendance.

After some initial reports claiming that Taylor Swift had traveled to Neo Química Arena in São Paulo, TMZ reported that she would not attend the game. After attending nearly all of now-fiancé Travis Kelce’s games the first year they were dating in 2023, Swift was more spotty in her attendance in 2024 amid security concerns.

An insider explained that this may be the case again for the team’s season opener.

‘Not a Shocker’ That Taylor Swift Skipped Game

As the report noted, none of the other players’ wives or girlfriends made the long trip to Brazil for Friday’s game, making it unlikely that Swift would attend on her own.

The report added that Swift also had concerns about attending games away from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

“Sources tell TMZ … it’s not a shocker Taylor skipped the international game … since none of the WAGs made the trip,” the report noted. “It’s just a 2-day jaunt leaving no time for the fams to intermingle. Plus, it’s safe to assume security for Taylor played a role in the decision-making.”

Reporter Mara Siegler of Page Six reported last October that Swift would likely not be attending road games as she had in the past.

“If she is going to a place that isn’t Arrowhead, there are security concerns,” a source told the outlet. “She has worked with Arrowhead so many times, they feel at ease and comfortable. Going to all kinds of different stadiums, you need to send a team in advance.”

While Swift did attend the Super Bowl and watched the Chiefs lose to the Philadelphia Eagles last season, she did not hit the road for the team’s away games. That could be the case again this year, with Swift skipping the first road game in 2025.

Travis Kelce Addresses Retirement Rumors

There could be a shrinking number of Chiefs games for Swift to watch her soon-to-be husband play. Kelce is in the final year of his contract and has faced retirement speculation, though he cut off some of the rumors this week as he said he feels ready to keep playing indefinitely.

“It’s the last [year] on the contract right now.” Kelce said, “But I’ll tell you what: I’m feeling young, and I’m feeling ready to rock, baby.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk speculated that Kelce had a plan in place to retire at the conclusion of last season if the Chiefs had completed their Super Bowl three-peat. The Eagles dashed those plans, forcing Kelce to re-evaluate whether he would continue his NFL career, Florio suggested.

“While the word ‘retire’ or ‘retirement’ doesn’t appear anywhere in the lengthy article, it continues to feel likely that Kelce would have walked away if the Chiefs had completed the first ever Super Bowl three-peat. Given the way he discussed his future in the aftermath of the game, it felt like he still could,” Florio wrote, via The Sporting News.
