The Kansas City Chiefs started Friday night’s game with obvious concerns at receiver with Rashee Rice suspended and standout rookie Jalen Royals missing time. While the team’s depth had improved, they weren’t built to survive another key injury, and that is exactly what happened moments into the game. Travis Kelce collided with Xavier Worthy, causing a shoulder injury that would knock the receiver out for the rest of the game and leave his status moving forward in question. It isn’t a hot take to point out that if Worthy misses extended time, the Chiefs are going to be forced to make a move.

Free agency options are incredibly limited, with Odell Beckham Jr. and Allen Robinson headlining the names left on the market. Robinson wasted no time putting his name up for consideration, tweeting right after the injury. The veteran receiver pointed out that he was still a free agent and believes that he could help Kansas City. This isn’t difficult to believe with the current lack of options.

Veteran Receiver Allen Robinson Attempts to Convince Chiefs of Potential Fit

Robinson has spent time with the Jaguars, Bears, Rams, Steelers, Giants, and Lions in an impressive career. Racking up 7,058 career receiving yards and 43 touchdowns dating back to his Jacksonville debut in the 2014 season. Whether or not there is anything left in the tank is the debate here. Still, it couldn’t hurt to give Robinson a look if things are as serious as they appeared with Worthy.

It is important to note that we have no official confirmation of the nature of the injury. However, reading body language and looking at Worthy’s right arm hanging as he walked to the sideline was telling. There is a sense of belief that this isn’t a one-week injury, but is going to take time, as the receiver appeared to suffer a serious shoulder injury.

Robinson’s self-promotion is admirable and should at least deserve a look if this is the case. It cannot hurt to bring the veteran in for a workout and see if there is a potential fit. You’re already relying on questionable depth options and elevating Hollywood Brown into the primary receiver.

The former Jaguars star has played in a myriad of systems and offers experience if nothing else. Having his presence in the room and on the sideline can offer a bit of guidance moving forward. With this in mind, Brett Veach should at least reach out and check whether or not the Chiefs can set up a workout and find out where the veteran is in his preparation.

If it is going to take time for Robinson to get in shape and get back up to speed, there is no reason for the signing. However, if the pass catcher has kept himself ready to go, the Chiefs could consider a practice squad addition with the option for elevation if there is a clear fit. With the current level of desperation, it is at least worth a look.
