Travis and Jason Kelce, arguably the most beloved brotherly duo in NFL history, have announced a special plan before Jason’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Travis’ current team, the Kansas City Chiefs, face off on September 14th.
They announced on their shared podcast, New Heights, that they are hosting a free tailgate the morning of the game.
The tailgate will kick off at 11 am on September 14, five hours before Travis takes the field to face the defending Super Bowl champions.
As if this game couldn’t get any more exciting, featuring the two teams that competed for a Super Bowl in February, there will now be a fun tailgate to attend before kickoff.
Jason shared that the tailgate will include “tons of contests, New Heights merch giveaways, a photo booth to take your game day photos, a DJ to keep the vibe going, cornhole games to compete with your friends, a giant TV to watch NFL games live, and plenty of places to hang out for you and your friends.”
In a surprising move, entrance to the tailgate is free, with no sign-up required. However, there will be limited capacity at the event, on a strictly first-come, first-serve basis.
Though the tailgate is undoubtedly exciting, it won’t overshadow the afternoon’s matchup.
The Eagles will be traveling to Arrowhead Stadium, widely regarded as one of the loudest and most intense environments in the NFL, to face a Chiefs team with a chip on their shoulder following the beatdown they suffered back in February.
While that game was a rout of epic proportions, with the Eagles winning 40-22 in a contest that was even more lopsided than the score suggests, their upcoming matchup is expected to be more of an even contest.
The Chiefs reloaded in the draft this offseason, featuring a highly touted left tackle out of Ohio State, Josh Simmons.
Simmons has reportedly looked like a franchise tackle during training camp, and if he can help give Patrick Mahomes some peace of mind against the Eagles, this matchup will likely be much closer than their last.
On the other hand, the Eagles lost several key contributors to their Super Bowl-winning team, including right guard Mekhi Becton, defensive tackle Milton Williams, cornerback Darius Slay, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and defensive end Josh Sweat.
They did a lot of work in the draft to remedy these losses, but they lost five essential players this offseason, making it hard to expect them to perform the same this season.
With the Chiefs likely to come out strong after their Super Bowl embarrassment, the Eagles’ still star-studded roster, and a fun tailgate to enjoy beforehand, September 14th is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting day for NFL fans.
