After a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs look forward to kicking off the 2025 NFL season with a win against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, September 5.

With superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the helm, Kansas City’s Super Bowl window remains open. Mahomes has led the Chiefs to five Super Bowl appearances in the past six seasons and hoisted the Lombardi Trophy three times.

Last season, Kansas City reached its third straight Super Bowl after defeating the Buffalo Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship game. Should the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl for a fourth consecutive year, they will join the Bills as the only other franchise to ever do so.

However, according to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, that is a feat that will never be repeated.

In a video shared by WIVB Sports director Josh Reed, McDermott said his No. 1 goal this season is to change the narrative surrounding Buffalo. While the Bills can’t seem to make it over the hump, he hates to hear the town referred to as a city of losers.

“That bothers me,” McDermott said. “Because that’s not what I’ve experienced and that’s not what my family’s experienced.

“Not even watching a football game or a football broadcast, and they refer to this area — I’m not even going to say it. They don’t know this community, they don’t know us, and just because it didn’t work out four years in a row, nobody’s going to do that again.”

“Now you’re going to get me going,” McDermott admitted. “It honestly pisses me off. Because people don’t know this town, they don’t know how hard it is to get to four straight Super Bowls. It will never happen again.”

The fiery comment immediately turned some heads. While McDermott was not discussing the Chiefs, the fact that their AFC rival is so close to achieving this exact feat couldn’t be ignored. Arrowhead Pride contributor Mark Gunnels posted, “Aw man this quote could be golden come late January. If you know, you know.”

A Chiefs fan reacted, “Honestly, if the Chiefs beat the Bills in the playoffs again and go to a 4th straight Super Bowl, Sean McDermott has to get the axe. Can’t lose to the same team in the playoffs 5 times in a row and watch said team make Super Bowl after Super Bowl.”

One man added, “I mean he’s not telling a lie here. No other teams will ever go 4 straight SB and lose all of em!!! Only Buffalo will hold that record!!!” Another Chiefs fan joked, “this one went over my head….like way wide right!😏.”

Even a Bills fan warned, “Actually Sean, they Chiefs are gonna do it again if you dont stop it.”

Bills QB Josh Allen Admitted He’s ‘Tired’ Of Being Asked About How To Beat The Chiefs

While Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the reigning Most Valuable Player, he’s yet to reach the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have played a huge role in thwarting that dream. Overall, Mahomes and Co. have sent Allen and the Bills packing in the postseason four times in the past six years.

So, what can Allen do to finally defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs? “You got to make sure that you’re doing everything right on your side of the football and not giving him short fields and turnovers,” Allen told ESports Insider’s DJ Siddiqi in July.

“Getting over that hump, it’s been the question. I hear it all the time. I’m getting a little tired of it. But the way to stop getting that question asked is to go out there and do it.”

However, it’s one game at a time. Allen’s focus is winning each week and getting back to the playoffs first. “One won’t get asked this question if we’re not in that position,” he added. “Just got to keep working hard and make the plays when we need to make them.”
