Aaron Judge Ties Yogi Berra on All-Time Yankees List

What Yankees legend Yogi Berra means to Aaron Judge, who just tied him in homers - Yahoo Sports

Aaron Judge continues to make his push toward his third MVP award of his career. While Judge, and the New York Yankees, have struggled over the past few months, they have simultaneously turned their seasons around in the month of August.

Judge sent a towering, 426-foot home run to left-center-field off Chicago White Sox pitcher, Martin Perez, on Sunday. The long blast was Judge’s third home run in his last five games and his sixth in the Month of August. He continues to lead Major League Baseball with a batting average of .324.

At the same time, the Yankees have now won seven of their past eight games, only trailing the Toronto Blue Jays by three games in the American League East. The Yankees hold a record of 76-61 with 25 games remaining in the regular season.

Aaron Judge Makes Yankees History

Judge’s home run on Sunday wasn’t your ordinary blast No. 43 on the season. This was home run No. 358 of Judge’s career, tying Hall-of-Famer, Yogi Berra, for fifth on the all-time, Yankees home run list.

Berra, who won three AL MVP awards of his own, played 18 of his 19 MLB seasons with the Yankees. All 358 of his career-home-runs were hit as a member of the Yankees.

Judge, 33, is in season No. 10 of his MLB career, having also hit all of his home runs wearing pinstripes. Judge is currently on pace to hit 54 home runs this season. That would be his third highest home run total of his career in a single season.

As per FanDuel Sportsbook, Judge still stands atop the AL MVP odds as the favorite (minus-220). Seattle Mariners sensation, Cal Raleigh, is the second favorite (plus-180). Judge’s next opportunity to hit a home run and break the tie with Berra will come on Tuesday against Framber Valdez and the Houston Astros.

The trumpeter who scores the postgame scurry to the 7 on Mets Plaza made an interesting musical choice in the minutes following the fresh 5-1 loss the Marlins had inflicted upon the Mets inside Citi Field. He played “Auld Lang Syne,” a number usually reserved for December 31 rather than August 31. I wondered if the wistful tune struck him as appropriate as we were bidding goodbye to summer on this late Sunday afternoon, or because the Mets have been dropping the ball with such force that they might be called on to re-enact their core incompetency in Times Square come New Year’s Eve.
