Dodgers Don’t Sign Walker Buehler, Who Joins NL Powerhouse Ahead of Deadline
The Los Angeles Dodgers will not be signing former fan favorite Walker Buehler, who was released by the Boston Red Sox Friday.
The right-hander is close to finalizing a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies and is now postseason-eligible, per MLB insider Jeff Passan.
Buehler struggled throughout 2025, sporting a 5.45 ERA across 112.1 innings pitched for the Red Sox this season. Manager Alex Cora announced the right-hander would be moving to the bullpen less than a week before his release.
While Buehler has been far from his best, there’s reason to believe he will replicate another strong performance in the postseason — at least that was the tale in 2024.
Last season, the right-hander had a 5.38 ERA with the Dodgers before tossing 10 scoreless innings between the NL Championship Series and World Series.
The thought of a reunion with Buehler was certainly compelling, given his incredible performance for the Dodgers in the postseason.
Buehler famously came out to close the ninth in Game 5 of the World Series for the Dodgers. LA had run out of relievers in the bullpen, and the right-hander offered to pitch in relief to secure the final three outs of the Fall Classic.
However, the Dodgers have a starting healthy rotation and reinforcements coming to the bullpen. Logistically, there was simply no room for Buehler on LA’s roster.
The Phillies evidently believe the right-hander can help them in their efforts down the stretch and into the playoffs.
Now, there is a chance the Dodgers will face Buehler in October.
