Trent Grisham hit a grand slam, Anthony Volpe also homered and Carlos Rodon pitched six strong innings as the visiting New York Yankees routed the Chicago White Sox 10-2 on Friday.
Rodon, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the White Sox, held his old team in check in his first appearance at Rate Field since September 2021.
Rodon (15-7) yielded one run and seven hits while walking two and striking out five.
New York stretched its winning streak to a season-best six games. The Yankees took a half-game lead over Boston for the first American League wild card and moved within three games of the first-place Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East.
Chicago has lost four in a row, including the past three by a combined 25 runs.
Grisham scored the game’s first run in the first inning when Ben Rice grounded into a double play. He walked to lead off the game and was later part of a double steal with Aaron Judge, who also walked.
Grisham delivered the game’s defining hit in the fourth, reaching Chicago starter Yoendrys Gomez for a grand slam. It was Grisham’s seventh home run in the past 10 games and his second grand slam this season.

Gomez (3-2) permitted five runs, four earned, on only two hits — Grisham’s grand slam and a Austin Wells single in the third. Gomez walked six and struck out six.
The White Sox drew to within 5-1 on Chase Meidroth’s run-scoring infield single in the fifth.
It hardly fazed the Yankees, who pulled away with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh. Volpe delivered an RBI single and two-run home over that stretch to finish 2-for-4 with three RBIs. It was his second consecutive multi-hit game in the series after he went 1-for-37 in his previous 11 games.
Chicago out-hit New York 12-7. Andrew Benintendi and Meidroth both had two hits and RBI, while Edgar Quero, Michael A. Taylor and Brooks Baldwin contributed two hits apiece.
Wells had two hits and an RBI for the Yankees.
White Sox reserve catcher Korey Lee pitched for the second time in three games, working a perfect ninth inning.
Chicago placed first baseman Miguel Vargas (sprained left hand) on the 10-day injured list before the game. Tim Elko, recalled from Triple-A Charlotte as Vargas’ replacement, went 0-for-4.
