Chiefs’ Travis Kelce’s Dad Spills Proposal Secrets as Taylor Swift Pushes for Private Wedding Plans
Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce proposed to music icon Taylor Swift on August 26. Swift, dressed in a casual striped black-and-white dress, took to her Instagram to share the news. But fun fact: they didn’t get engaged this week after all.
According to Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, the 35-year-old actually proposed “not quite two weeks ago.” [News 5 Cleveland].
The moment came at Kelce’s home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. The couple was supposed to head out for dinner. That’s when Kelce asked Swift to marry him over a glass of wine, choosing a quiet, low-key setting over a staged public event. Many fans now speculate the proposal likely happened around August 10 in the couple’s backyard.
Ed Kelce alluded that his son had been considering a more elaborate plan. However, he was encouraged to focus on the meaning of the gesture instead of the scale. He recalled advising the three-time Super Bowl champ that the act itself would define the moment. The location or spectacle doesn’t matter much.
“He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event. And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Ed revealed that he wasn’t present for the proposal, though. Instead, he was attending a Philadelphia Eagles preseason football practice when his younger son called to share the news via FaceTime.
The Cruel Summer singer has also drawn praise within the Kelce family. A PEOPLE report noted she often brings thoughtful gifts, flowers, and baked goods, going out of her way for Jason Kelce’s children. After two years of dating, the Chiefs star and the global pop icon are officially engaged, quietly sure, but on their own terms.
“It will be more casual than people think,” a source told Page Six.
The couple confirmed their engagement on Tuesday, as Kelce presented Swift with a co-designed Artifex Fine diamond ring, reportedly valued at up to $1 million.
Ed Kelce also revealed his son asked Swift’s father, Scott, for permission about a month earlier. Kelce, a four-time All-Pro with 80 career touchdowns, has secured yet another win off-field.
And this one, though, won’t require overtime.
