The Golden State Warriors remain at a standstill with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and have yet to make any major moves this offseason because of it.

With most teams rounding out their rosters ahead of training camp, the Warriors still have work to do. The team has been heavily linked to several remaining free agents, including Al Horford, Gary Payton II, De’Anthony Melton and Seth Curry. However, Malik Beasley could also be on the team’s radar.

Beasley was previously named as a target in a federal gambling investigation in June, though Shams Charania of ESPN reported Friday that he’s no longer a person of interest. The swingman will now explore his options in free agency and is expected to draw interest from several teams.

Malik Beasley could join Warriors on a discount

While Beasley isn’t expected to receive the contract he would have earlier in free agency, he could still sign a veteran-minimum contract and enter unrestricted free agency again next offseason. Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard believes Beasley could be a major bargain, and the Warriors should act quickly if he’s cleared to play.

“At this point in the offseason in which no team has remaining cap space, Beasley will likely have to settle for a veteran’s minimum contract,” he wrote. “And if he’s cleared to play, he could become one of the biggest bargains in the league.”

Rumors circulated before the federal investigation that the Detroit Pistons would re-sign Beasley to a lucrative deal, but they eventually pivoted and signed Duncan Robinson to a three-year, $48 million contract. The club could still target Beasley, though he’ll likely continue to explore his options.

If most teams can only offer him the minimum, it makes sense for Beasley to consider every option. Fit and the opportunity to win will likely be key factors, and Golden State is in need of additional three-point shooting off the bench.

He shot a career-best 41.6 percent from beyond the arc in the 2024-25 campaign, knocking down 319 total three-pointers — one shy of league leader Anthony Edwards. Beasley could provide a much-needed spark for the Warriors as they look to maximize Steph Curry’s remaining years.
