Aaron Boone looks on before a game against the Mariners.

With Aaron Boone being on the hot seat like never before for the New York Yankees, some wonder if the team could move on from him at the end of the year.

If the Yankees make it to the World Series or win it all, it’d likely change things. However, as of now, the Yankees don’t seem to be in a position to do so.

There will be multiple managers the Yankees could replace Boone with. FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently linked them to Ron Washington.

Washington is currently the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, but hasn’t been with the team over the past few weeks due to a health scare. Washington returned to the Angels earlier in the week, but only as a visitor and won’t be coaching them.

“This would not be a very popular move. Fair enough, as Ron Washington’s most recent stint as a manager has underwhelmed across the board. Tasked with bringing the Los Angeles Angels back to relevancy after Shohei Ohtani’s departure, Washington has done little but extend the Angels’ postseason drought…

“In terms of reputation, Washington probably isn’t what Yankees fans are looking for. But he has tons of clubhouse experience dating back to his time as a player in the 70s and 80s. He is also a minted genius when it comes to coaching infielders. There’s a lot more to successfully managing a team, but Washington can at least provide valuable guidance to Anthony Volpe, Jazz Chisholm and other struggling Yankees defenders. That can’t be the worst thing,” Kline wrote .

Ron Washington Not an Ideal Candidate for One Reason

It’s tough to say that Washington would be the perfect replacement for Boone and the New York Yankees, more so because of the health issues he’s dealing with.

The last thing the Yankees want is to bring someone in who has to continue missing games due to health problems. Washington might also decide that he should focus on his health after the year, but reports have stated that he wants to return and be a coach next season.

“(Doctors) told me by the time I reach eight weeks I could start doing some light work, but my light work was to come up to Texas and be with the team,” Washington said , per CBS News. “I feel great, I really do. … I didn’t come here to work, I came here to be around my guys and have fun with them.”

Can Aaron Boone Keep his Yankees Job?

As for Boone, the next month and a half will be the biggest of his coaching career. Some believe that the New York Yankees fan base needs to be more understanding of what he’s going through, including former Yankees manager Joe Torre, but as all New York fans know, if a coach doesn’t succeed at the highest level, fans will let them hear it.

“I feel for Aaron Boone,” Torre said to SNY. “I’ve been in that place where you’re trying to, you know, rearrange the furniture and hopefully make a difference. But again, this club’s too good not to have a run, and there’s still time left. You know, if we were September 1, I’d be more concerned, but I have a lot of confidence.”
