FIFA Chairman Condemns Treatment of Vinícius Júnior

In an unusual and significant step, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has openly criticized the treatment of Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior, after yet another night of controversy in Spanish football.

At an urgent press conference in Zurich, Infantino delivered a strong rebuke.

“What happened yesterday is unacceptable. Football is about passion, but it must also be about respect. No player — whether Vinícius or anyone else — should face hostility that crosses the line. We cannot allow this to continue.”

Infantino stressed that the recurring incidents targeting Vinícius Júnior not only tarnish LaLiga’s reputation but also harm football’s global image. He urged Spanish football bodies and clubs to take firmer action against discriminatory and abusive behavior from fans.

When asked whether FIFA would step in directly, Infantino hinted at the possibility:

“We have tools at our disposal, and we are ready to use them if needed. Protecting players is non-negotiable. This is bigger than Vinícius Júnior — it’s about setting a global standard for the game.”

His comments quickly reverberated through the football world. Spanish outlets described his remarks as “without precedent,” while Brazilian media praised Infantino for finally offering Vinícius meaningful institutional support.

For Vinícius, who has long spoken out about the abuse he suffers, this moment could represent a turning point. Sources close to him say he feels “recognized at the highest level” for the first time.

Although Real Madrid has not yet issued an official statement, insiders at the Santiago Bernabéu believe the club strongly supports FIFA’s stance. “Enough is enough,” one source said. “The way Vinícius has been treated cannot continue.”

With FIFA now taking a visible role, LaLiga and Spanish authorities face growing pressure to ensure that, the next time Vinícius takes the field, the spotlight will be on his talent — not the behavior of the crowd.
