The Chiefs’ defense line needs someone to step up and take some burden off of Chris Jones in 2025.
Kansas City received disappointing production from its defensive tackles and ends in 2024. Charles Omenihu, who plays both positions, could change that this season.
The folks at Pro Football Focus gave Omenihu the highest grade (85.0) out of all Chiefs defensive players during Friday night’s preseason matchup against the Chicago Bears. During the game he recorded two tackles, a half sack, and a quarterback hit. Omenihu took to X on Saturday and sent a blunt message to anyone who is doubting whether or not he is back to form following his knee injury.
Preseason yes but I hope now people can stop wondering if I’m the same or got the same explosion BS. Yes I’m good see yall In Brazil. https://t.co/ohlWafEISG

Omenihu tore his ACL during the 2023 AFC Championship Game, which cost him the first 11 games of the 2024 season. He wasn’t quite himself when he returned, posting just 15 total tackles and two sacks.
However, the fact that he was able to return at all is pretty remarkable, and he appears back to 100 percent now over a year and a half removed from the injury. It appeared for a time that Omenihu would be moving on from K.C. during free agency, but the two sides were able to agree on a one-year contract worth up to a maximum of $7 million.
His two-year stint with the Chiefs has been a rollercoaster ride, as he also missed the first six games of the 2023 season due to a suspension. He played very well afterwards, recording 31 total tackles, eight sacks, and four forced fumbles.
Still just 28 years old, Omenihu could secure a nice multi-year contract if he can put together a full and productive season. K.C. will be leaning on him to do so, while also helping along young players such as DT Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte.
