Liverpool Step Up Pursuit of Alexander Isak as Newcastle Set £150m Demands

With just two weeks left in the summer transfer window, speculation over Alexander Isak’s potential move from Newcastle United to Liverpool is heating up.

While stars like Declan Rice and Mo Salah were celebrated at the PFA Team of the Year awards, Isak was absent, instead making headlines with a social media post. In it, the Swedish striker accused Newcastle of breaking promises made to him earlier in the summer. The club quickly hit back, insisting they have no intention of selling their star forward before the transfer deadline.

Liverpool, however, are not backing down. Their opening offer of around £110 million plus add-ons was rejected earlier in the window. Although many thought their interest had cooled following the arrival of Hugo Ekitike, new reports suggest the Premier League champions are preparing an improved bid.

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Newcastle want £150 million for Isak but may accept slightly less if certain conditions are met. One of those conditions is securing a replacement. The Magpies have already missed out on Benjamin Sesko and Ekitike, while also losing Callum Wilson on a free transfer. Their pursuit of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa is ongoing, though he is seen more as Wilson’s replacement than Isak’s.

Downie hinted that if Newcastle can secure Wissa soon, and Liverpool increase their bid to around £130 million, the Magpies may be forced to consider a deal — though it would leave Eddie Howe with limited attacking options.

For now, the standoff continues. But with the deadline fast approaching, Isak’s future could still become one of the defining stories of this transfer window.
