New York Post | Peter Botte: The Yankees invested heavily in their bullpen at the trade deadline, and outside of David Bednar, they don’t have much to show for it. That’s due in part to the struggles of Camilo Doval, who says he’s still adjusting after arriving in New York. “Just adjusting to the role here now,” Doval said through an interpreter after Thursday night’s loss. “Just getting ready earlier, preparing myself earlier to go into the game.” Aaron Boone noted that while Doval has great stuff, he needs to throw strikes, something he hasn’t done in nine appearances with the Yankees thus far.

MLB.com | Will Leitch: As much as the Yankees have shot themselves in the foot this summer, they may just be saved by the schedule as we heard towards fall. Leitch details which teams have the easiest and hardest schedules remaining, with the Yankees coming out as having the easiest strength of schedule the rest of the way. Their last 13 games in particular will offer a huge opportunity to close strong; series against the Twins, Orioles, and White Sox. On the other end of the spectrum, the Red Sox have one of the harder schedules among contenders, with remaining series against Toronto and Detroit, not to mention a date with the A’s, who have looked like a different team since the promotion of Nick Kurtz.

New York Daily News | Peter Sblendorio: ($) Aaron Judge being limited to DH duties has meant that the red-hot Giancarlo Stanton has had start a number of games on the bench, a trend that’s somehow benefitted the Yankees with Stanton coming up huge as a pinch-hitter this year. Stanton’s dramatic extra-inning home run in Tampa on Wednesday night was the latest example of his newfound pinch-hit prowess, the veteran coming up with four hits and two homers as a pinch-hitter this year despite entering this season 5-for-46 with zero homers when pinch-hitting.

Yahoo Sports | Kari Anderson: If you missed the broadcast of last night’s game, you missed the latest instance of an animal interrupting a sporting event, a squirrel running onto the Yankee Stadium field as Max Fried tried to ply his trade against the Red Sox. Play was momentarily paused, and Fried seemed somewhat annoyed, before the squirrel scampered somewhere into the wall on the right side of the field.
