During Kansas City Chiefs‘ preseason finale against the Chicago Bears on Friday, August 22, fans will see the team’s starters play, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who’s itching to get back out there.

While the prospect of Mahomes getting injured makes numerous fans nervous, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stands by his decision. “Yeah, there’s just a little bit longer wait here in between this game and the next game,” Reid told reporters. The next game being the Chiefs’ 2025 season opener against Los Angeles Chargers.

The Week 1 matchup takes places exactly two weeks after the Chiefs-Bears exhibition game. The primetime showdown takes place in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday, September 5.

“And so, I just think I’d rather give the guys a little bit more time in this game so the timing keeps a little closer to when we get to our game in season.”

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will also start when the Chiefs host the Bears at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday.

While Kelce and Mahomes remain focused football, the duo partnered for a major off-the-field venture in Kansas City, a restaurant named 1587 Prime, which made a major announcement this week.

Mahomes and Kelce first announced their plan to open a steakhouse at the Loews Hotel in Kansas City in March 2024. The restaurant announced they they will officially open on Wednesday, September 17, just before Week 3 of the NFL season.The date is also notable as it marks Mahomes’ 30th birthday. The three-time Super Bowl MVP seemed to confirm he’ll be at 1587 Prime for their big opening night. He commented on the restaurant’s post, “30th Birthday Party?!?! 🎉🥳.” Kelce added, “Let’s go KC!!! 🔥🔥.”

What better way to drum up more attention for 1587 Prime than hosting his birthday at the restaurant, especially if Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is in town for opening night.

For fans looking to come and help celebrate, their reservations website opened on August 20. However, reservations at the two-story, 10,000-square foot restaurant are already completely booked through October. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt’s wife, Tavia Hunt, is excited to dine at 1587 Prime. She commented, “We can’t wait to indulge! 🙌❤️.”

Comedian Rob Riggle added, “This is gonna be my new favorite restaurant in KC no doubt!!!! Congrats!!! 🍾👊🏻💥😃.”

Chiefs Kingdom is also pumped to see more Mahomes/Kelce magic on the field. While Kelce, 35, promised to get into the best shape of his life ahead of what could be his 13th and final season in the NFL, he’s loving what he sees from Mahomes in practice.

“It seems like he’s always a step ahead,” Kelce told ESPN of his quarterback, best friend, and business partner.

“His arm is alive right now. It’s fun to see him know the play and know where he’s going before the snap happens. He’s our biggest, fearless competitor. He’s really leading this team right now into working hard and getting right.”
